Man killed in Benoni crash

Johannesburg - A man in his 30s was killed when his car crashed into a streetlight pole in Benoni North on Friday night, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said that paramedics arrived on the scene around 20:00 to find the man's car badly damaged at the corner of Elgin and Great North Roads.

The man was declared dead on the scene.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

    shew condolences to the family. but now on the reporting side of things where is corner of elgin & great north. forgive me if i wrong but i live that side of town and not aware of that intersection. Google maps shows an elgin road in kempton park far from great north and also another in sunward park in boksburg also far from great north road

    Sounds like a drunk and/or reckless driver to me. If that's so then he could at least have had the courtesy to roll himself into a ditch instead. Replacing street lights costs the tax payer money.
