Johannesburg - One man has died and two others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Land Rover Defender and a bakkie on the Golden Highway in Vanderbijlpark, paramedics said on Wednesday.

"Paramedics found a single male driver in the Land Rover. The man believed to be aged in his late 30s sustained various fatal injuries, he was unfortunately later declared dead at the scene," ER24 spokesperson Andre Visser said.

He said the two occupants of a bakkie, a father and his son, both sustained suspected back and neck injuries during the accident just before midnight.

Paramedics treated and stabilised the men at the scene before transporting them to the Vereeniging Medi-Clinic.

Local police attended the scene and would investigate the accident, Visser said.
