Johannesburg - A man was murdered in the early hours of Saturday morning in Daggafontein, Springs, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

Spokesperson Clifford Shongwe said a passerby found of man "barely alive" while walking on the main road around 02:30.

The good Samaritan could not find help until a passing car stopped. Ekurhuleni emergency services were called after which the passerby went in the car to report the matter to police.

By the time paramedics got to the man, he had died. There was a stab wound on the man's chest, and a knife lying next to him.

In the man's pocket was a wallet containing R50 and several bank cards.

While on one of the cards there was a name, it was known whether this was the man who had been killed.

Police were investigating.
