Man nabbed with elephant tusks

Johannesburg -  A 45-year-old man will appear in court next week after being found in possession of two elephant tusks, Limpopo police say.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.said the ivory, which differs in size, is thought to have been removed from two different elephants, [and is] valued at R25 400."

He said that the man - arrested on Thursday - appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Friday where he was charged with the possession of ivory.

His case has been postponed for a formal bail application.

Mulaudzi said police were investigating where the tusks came from and were also searching for the carcasses of the elephants which must have been slain in order to remove their tusks.
