Durban - A 21-year-old man was jailed for 195 years in prison after being found guilty on multiple counts of rape, robbery and murder in the Ramsgate High Court, Durban police said on Saturday.

Colonel Jay Naicker said Sthembiso Rasta Mbhele of Amahlongwa, near Umkomaas, was arrested in December 2009.

He was charged with nine counts of rape, nine counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, one of attempted rape and one of murder.

Mbhele appeared in court on Thursday where he was found guilty on six counts of rape, six counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, one of attempted rape and one of murder.

On Friday, he was sentenced to a total of 195 years imprisonment - which consisted of 10 years imprisonment for the rapes, 15 years for the robberies, five years for attempted rape, a life sentence for murder and another life sentence for a sixth rape conviction where the victim was a juvenile.

Mbhele had approached his victims with the promise of employment and would lure them to an isolated area where he would then threaten them with a knife and a broken bottle before raping and robbing them, Naicker said.

His last victim, who was attacked in December 2009, was the sister of a friend of his. She was raped and stabbed six times in her chest and a large rock was placed on top of her.

The woman later managed to stumble to a house in Roseneath, Umkomaas where she sought help.

She was able to identify her attacker and he was arrested the very next day in Kwandengezi, Marianhill,. The woman later died in hospital.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Blessing Ngcobo said he was relieved that the trial was finally over and that Mbhele would no longer be a threat to society.

"Let this be a warning to criminals. You can run and you can hide but you can't hide forever. The long arm of the law will eventually catch you as we caught Mbhele", said Ngcobo.

    Hang the bastard!

i think all countries should invest in a remote island somewhere, and export all these kind of criminals there. Let them rape and murder each other - they chose to give up their human rights when they violated those of others.. is my opinion.

      Pints - 2011-04-16 18:42

Absolutely. Jail them and you might as well begin counting the days until they "escape" - aided of course by those who are paid (with your taxes!) to keep them locked up in the first place. The noose (or a bullet) is the only way to be sure they won't do it again.

South Africa's next President if we remain under the ANC

      paulmandlankosi - 2011-04-16 18:17

Is he in the ANC, or generalizing that all blacks are ANC as usual?

      Mswati - 2011-04-16 18:30

He is indirectly campaigning for the ANC.

      DW - 2011-04-19 15:49

Paul, he is not generalising that all blacks are ANC, but that most ANC politicians are criminals (whether convicted or not). He is stating that if a man is a criminal, he stands a good chance of becoming an ANC bigwig.

How can he be sentenced to 15 yrs for the robberies and only 10 yrs for the rapes - conclusion : robbery more serious then the rape !!!????

  • Kaizo - 2011-04-16 20:39

This is why we need the death penalty, for nonsense like this.

  • Hawker - 2011-04-17 00:24

I bet top dollar that these sentenses will run concurrently which will mean that he will only actually spend 25years behind bars. Wait for it people. He will be out by the time he is 46 with still plenty of energy to Rape and Murder more women. The ONLY solution for maggot infested cockroaches like this is the death penalty. Don't hang him, or give him the wonderful pleasure of a peaceful death in the gas chamber, etc. Hand him over to the community and let him experience pain so that he begs to die.

How about we open Robbin Island again? We can send all these Aholes there and let the SANF us the island for target practise. Imagine these guys are on the beach there and they are busy banging each other and then all of a sudden the catcher get a rocket up his anus. That would be so cool!!!

      Randomhero6661 - 2012-01-18 09:12

      cool story bro...

  • LBS - 2011-04-18 11:28

HA HA HA, 195 years.... how about we will see him out in 7!

  • DW - 2011-04-19 15:47

It is time that our courts stopped allowing the different sentences to run concurrently. Once one sentence is over (or he is eligible for parole), the next sentence should kick in. This way, this type of scum will sit in jail forever. The way our justice system works now, a life sentence is about 25 years. At this stage this man will be younger than 50, unemployable and will leave jail for a life of a hardened criminal. Why should this be allowed?
