Johannesburg - A 39-year-old man was jailed for 28 years on Wednesday for raping two girls in Mountain View near Ennerdale, Gauteng police said.

Korotswane Sydwell Twala was convicted in the Sebokeng Magistrate's Court, for the rape of the girls aged seven and eight in 2008, Constable Edwin Ntsheo said.

He said Twala had seen three girls playing in a street in the township on the day of the incident and called them to his shack, but only two of them went.

When the girls entered his shack, Twala closed the door and put on a condom before asking the children to play with his private parts, Ntsheo said.

"He then threw one of the girls on a bed and raped her while the other tried to stop him.

"But he turned around and threw the other girl on the bed and raped her too," he said.

Twala raped the girls until unknown men walked in on him and alerted the community.

Police were called, but when they got to the scene Twala had already been assaulted by the community.

Ntsheo said Twala was found guilty two months ago on two counts of rape and exposing the young girls to his genitals.

He was sentenced to 25 years for each rape, which will run concurrently, and an additional three years for exposure, which worked out to him getting 28 years in prison.
