Johannesburg - A man was shot and killed around midnight at a taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD, paramedics said on Sunday.

"ER24 paramedics responded to a scene at around midnight where a man in his late twenties was shot," ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said.

"The incident occurred at a taxi rank on the corners of Plein and De Villiers Street in Johannesburg, Gauteng."

When paramedics arrived, they found the man had been shot in his abdominal area.

Paramedics could not do anything for the man, as he had already succumbed to his wound.

"The exact facts surrounding the incident is still unknown. Police and other local authorities were on scene for investigation," Rossouw said.
