Cape Town - A Cape Flats man has asked for forgiveness after confessing to killing a Claremont woman, The Cape Times reported on Thursday.

Mogamat Armien Salie, 31, appeared in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday for the murder of 33-year-old Anzunette du Plessis in October, the newspaper reported.

She had let him in to check the roof for leaks, but he went to her room and took a camera.

"That's when she came behind me and started putting up a fight. I fought back and I was very much angry and grabbed the knife out of my pocket," Salie reportedly said in a statement.

The Cape Times reported that Salie was seen in a video on Wednesday, admitting to stabbing the young mother and slitting her throat, before grabbing household items and running away.

He was quoted as saying in the video: "I know I might not bring back what I have taken away and I am sorry for doing such a horrible thing... Please find a spot in your heart to forgive me."
