Johannesburg - A manhunt has been launched for four men who allegedly stabbed a father-of-three to death in an attack on a smallholding outside Bela-Bela on Tuesday morning.

Netwerk24's Marietie Louw-Carstens and George Germishuys reported that Jakes van Deventer, 35, was stabbed to death with a knife and a screwdriver.

The four men are believed to have broken into the house he shared with his partner.

Van Deventer had two children from a previous relationship and a 3-month-baby with his partner, who also had a child from a previous relationship. The older children were in the house at the time with her mother, who hid them and told them to keep quiet.

The men attacked Van Deventer and his partner, stabbing her and holding a knife against their baby's cheek. She fought back, severely injuring two fingers, according to the report.

A manhunt was launched after the attack, with the police dog unit and a helicopter being used in the search.

According to Netwerk24, this is the fourth incident of its kind in the last few weeks in Bela-Bela, and police are investigating whether they are linked. Earlier this month the body of a retired doctor was found on his game farm in the Waterberg district.
