Johannesburg - A man was throttled, and hit with a beer bottle for his cellphone and R40 in Johannesburg at the weekend, Gauteng police said on Monday.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested after robbing a 38-year-old man on the corner of Delvers and Pritchard streets around 19:00 on Sunday.

The man was on his way home when three people tried to choke him, hit him with the bottle, and took his cellphone and wallet, containing R40.

"He screamed for help and the community gave chase. The police apprehended two suspects and a third suspect is still at large with the belongings of the victim."

The men will appear in court soon.
