Johannesburg - An alleged robber will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Friday after he was caught trying to escape in a bus, Eastern Cape police said.

Lt-Col Priscilla Naidu said the 23-year-old man apparently broke into a shop in Cape Town on Thursday morning and fled in a passenger bus.

Cape Town police received a tip-off about the man and gave the information to police in Storms River, Eastern Cape.

Storms River police stopped the bus as it was passing through the town and arrested the man. More than R30 000 was found in his possession.

He faces charges of housebreaking and theft.

"He will be remanded into custody, and Cape Town [police] will come here and get him," Naidu said.

was he driving the bus or was he a passenger on it. I guess it doesn't really matter. It is a rather dumb get away strategy. Although he probably saw how buses race around the city streets and felt they might just make fast get away vehicles.
