Johannesburg - A man is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for the alleged murder of his 10-month-old baby, Northern Cape police said.

The 22-year-old from Modderrivier was accused of assaulting his baby on Saturday evening, police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu said.

"The man was feeding the little girl some juice. When the child refused to drink, the father became annoyed and started assaulting the child," Naidu said.

"His anger became so intense that he started to kick and beat the child on her head."

The baby was taken to Kimberley Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

The man and his partner were arguing before the assault, Naidu said.
