Johannesburg - A man died after he was driven over by a train in the Strand, outside Cape Town, paramedics said on Friday.

ER spokesperson Andre Visser said the man died while trying to jump into the train on Thursday night.

"The man allegedly ran next to the train before attempting to jump up and catch it. The man then fell next to the train before being hooked on... [its] undercarriage," he said.

The man died at the scene.

Was he late for the train or just train surfing ? If he was late then my condolences, if he was train surfing then he was stupid!

Late? Surfing? That's irrelevant. The man was irresponsible and caused his own death, as well as traumatising the train driver, onlookers and not least of all his family. Another candidate for Darwin Award, perhaps.

If you are a regular South African and you are late, you do silly things like try to jump onto a train that you just missed. When you are an MP, you just switch on your blue lights and shoot at cars in your way. What a stark contrast in style - but not in stupidity.

So where is "the scene" if the train was moving?

Idiot - you deserve what you got. If you late for work, you would probably get a warning and will be still living. If you was the bread winner in the family, look at how many lives you destroyed by being an idiot. Condolences to his family
