Pietermaritzburg - A man accused of killing a 23-year-old
student in December last year appeared in court on Thursday, where his case was
transferred to the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court.
Nompilo Ndlovu, 23, was strangled, burnt, chopped up and
buried in a shallow grave on Christmas Day last year.
Tensions rose when the matter came before magistrate Ntsoaki
Ndawonde. Ndlovu’s friends and family in the public gallery learnt that the
murder accused, Thamsanqa Justice Tenza, 24, was out on bail.
Tenza appealed for bail in the high court last month and was
released after paying R2 000.
Ndlovu’s relatives asked how this had happened, saying it was
not fair to her family.
Tenza did not appear to be affected by the commotion and sat
calmly in court.
He is charged with murdering Ndlovu in Imbali,
Pietermaritzburg, on the night of 25 December 2013.
Ndlovu was apparently his ex-girlfriend, and was enrolled as
a student at Msunduzi FET college, studying electrical engineering.
Her hacked and burnt body was found in a shallow grave
behind Tenza’s room in Imbali on 26 December, causing outrage in the community.
Tenza will appear in the Regional Court on 11 August.
