Mandela family launches fashion label

2012-07-12 12:13

Johannesburg - The family of former president Nelson Mandela has launched a fashion label inspired by the title of Mandela's biography, Long Walk To Freedom, The Times reported on Thursday.

Mandela's daughter Zenani Mandela-Dlamini and her children said the label was not competing with the 46664 brand.

"We're not worried. Our brand is different. Ours is a family brand and we're not in competition with 46664," Mandela-Dlamini's daughter Swati told the newspaper at the label's launch in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The Long Walk To Freedom Clothing label, would be available over the internet.

Mandela-Dlamini, and her children Swati, Zaziwe, Zozuko, and Zinhle, began working on the project two years ago, according to the newspaper.

Seems like the Mandela family cares just as much about Madiba as the ANC does. Talk about exploitation :(

If the proceeds went charity I would support it. Seems more likely this is a money making scheme. How sad

hang on, was this inspired by the book, or just using the book to make money? I guess if this fashion label is going to use the book as inspiration, then the proceeds from it will all go to the Nelson Mandela Children's fund. If not, then Nelson is being used again for other people's agendas..

      vee111 - 2012-07-12 15:51

well these are Mandelas kids/grand kids,LET THEM BE...anyone would do anything for their children/family to get ahead in life, dont understand the fuss it's their family affairs..who are we to judge???

You know , on second thought to them . Their grandfather and they did not get rich through corruption, tenders and ripping the country off like other politicians and their children do . AL LEAST, even using the old mans name , THEY are still making money HONESTLY.I think the family deserve every cent they can make in a honest way,The old man ,unlike other politicians is relatively poor DUE to his honesty and donating more than half of his salary to children funds . So , here we sit with honest entrepeneurs that see a opertunity and making use of it .Its afar cry from other politicians children that are looking for a free lunch on the tenderpreneur and nationalsation wagon .PLUS they are going to create jobsI just pity them for all the labour laws they are going to suit with and they HIGLY productive workforce they will have to cope with .

      jeffrey.jones.357 - 2012-07-12 19:15

"The old man ,unlike other politicians is relatively poor..." And you know this how? I doubt very much that he is "relatively poor", but then who are you comparing him with? I am sick and tired of the Mandela family and their exploitation of Nelson Mandela's name. After all, what have any of them done in their own right without shoving his name down our throats?

  • Adam - 2012-07-12 18:55

Not catchy enough, should have been something like magoo, or church street.I dont buy illegal cigarettes, and dont support terrorism.

  • Johan De Beer - 2012-07-13 02:43

Is it sports clothing? (Long walk to freedom)

  • linda.rautenbach.12 - 2012-07-15 09:32

the BIGGEST problem with this label is-is that it is MADE IN CHINA!!! Why not support local proudly south african CMT's for manufacturing the goods???? Just shows you how much they care. Extremely disappointing and for that reason will not support this brand.

      linda.rautenbach.12 - 2012-07-15 09:40

and by made in China I'm talking about the 46664 label
