Mandela's fate lies with God - Mandla

2013-06-27 21:17

Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela's condition is stable though still critical, as the presidency announced, his grandson Mandla Mandela said on Thursday.

"Every improvement in my grandfather's health is cause for celebration for many of us," he said in a statement.

He continued to be heartened by the messages of support for the ailing icon, but was disappointed by the few who continued to spread rumours about his health.

"I call upon those responsible to desist from spreading mischievous rumours about Madiba's state of health. Our government has been keeping all of us informed in this regard and there is no reason to doubt the accuracy of the information they provide to the public," he said.

"At the end of the day my grandfather's fate, like that of everyone else, lies with God and our ancestors."

Mandla Mandela visited his grandfather in hospital earlier on Thursday.

He said the family continued to be grateful to government, the ANC, and the doctors in charge of Mandela's health during "this difficult period".

The presidency announced around mid-afternoon on Thursday that Mandela's condition had improved during the night.

According to the presidency's statement: "President Jacob Zuma visited former president Nelson Mandela in hospital in Pretoria today, 27 June, and was informed by the medical team that Madiba's condition has improved during the course of the night.

"He remains critical, but is now stable," spokesperson Mac Maharaj said.

At the end we are all in God's hands.

      Godfrey Welman - 2013-06-27 21:43

Thanks News24 for all the 'updates'. As much as I love and respect Madiba I have decided this is the last 'update' i'll read till I see statement from his doctors.

      OzzyInSA - 2013-06-27 22:29

Fail to see what the "ancestors" have to do with this. They are all dead and no nothing of Nelson Mandela's current problems (Ecclesiates 9:5)

      GB Garratt - 2013-06-28 04:15

Ozzy The ancestors were real - your god never was. That's the difference.

      John Sekgobela Stalwart - 2013-06-28 07:59

GB Garrat fools of ur kind say in their hearts ''there is no God.'' But there is God and anscentors know nothing of Mandela that's a fact.

      leroy.reynolds.353 - 2013-06-28 08:06

bull, if it were in his hands he would have passed already, machines are keeping him alive. people are going simple, if you believe in a such thing as god then you are in his hands from day 1 not so, so stop making spiritual statements and just release facts....thank you

      Cassandra - 2013-06-28 11:10

At the beginning too, in fact, ALL the time!

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-06-28 13:11

If even fools get it, what is your excuse?

  • Carica Mostert - 2013-06-27 21:30

Why all the fuss? He as all of us are human, our time is our time! Why is he been kept alive to suffer? I think its very inhumane of his family!

      Cassandra - 2013-06-27 21:51

      Psalm 139:16. says it all!

      Mbali Lihle Mbatha Ngcobo - 2013-06-27 22:09

So its humane to kill him?

      Mvelo Maseko - 2013-06-27 22:19

let them have messy on him

      OzzyInSA - 2013-06-27 22:39

Carica, u do know it is the duty of doctors to keep a patient alive. The family is being guided by the doctors. They are not making decisions in ignorance. Besdides he has improved (slightly). He is not suffering and is alert enough to recognise and respond to family. So what is your problem?

  • Linds Ron-House - 2013-06-27 21:32

My sincere hope was for Madiba to reach 100 years.

      Linds Ron-House - 2013-06-27 21:49

He once said "there is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires."

      Karsten Kaminski - 2013-06-27 22:09

Couldn't have put it better myself, get Madiba a bells! He deserves one and a hell of a lot more. As a country we owe so much to this man.

  • Ft Burhaak - 2013-06-27 21:43

Its not pleasant to see Mr Mandela going through this hardship,i pray that God makes it easy for him.

  • Craig Situation Ngidi - 2013-06-27 21:45

#Death by stable yet critical# The ANC never fails to amaze me shame!!!

      OzzyInSA - 2013-06-27 22:48

#Fool. Critical mean he is in ICU. Stable means that he is not in any danger for now.

  • Cassandra - 2013-06-27 21:49

Desiree Dludlu: Do you believe Mandela is a Christian? What's your basis for believing that?

      Jerry Springer - 2013-06-27 21:59

It is for God to decide.

      OzzyInSA - 2013-06-27 22:52

Mandela was a Jehovah's Witness before he took up politics and his first wife was a devout JW throughout her life. Mandela knows more about the Bible in his little finger tham most professed Christians commenting here.

      GB Garratt - 2013-06-28 04:32

Mandela is secular. His first wife was a Jehovah's Witless. Not Mandela and it is a lie to make that association. Mandela have never made a public statement mentioning Jesus. Mandela never even bothered to mention Jesus in his autobiography. Mandela never initiated public prayer at any time. So he was not a Christian and by most Christian dogma, since he never had Jesus as his personal saviour, he is destined for hell. And here is the kicker. Mandela was an honorary member of an organisation that celebrates the life of one of the most prominent and outspoken atheists of the 20th Century, Bertrand Russell. No Christian would allow his name to be associated with the life and views of Bertrand Russell. Mandela is an honorary member of the Bertrand Russell Society So al these grandstanding hypocritical Christians wanting to steal the limelight with disgusting displays on public piety are in fact disgracing Mandela's true outlook on life.

  • Cassandra - 2013-06-27 21:53

Blackie" Mandela's been a dyed - in - the - wool cadre of the ANC, and it's major deployee for a very, very long time.

      DumAss Blackie - 2013-06-27 22:06

Uhmm - yes, I know that Cassandra - my issue is with the bull-sh*t story the ANC told the daughter to spin the media - that after a week of him being non-responsive (if some reports are to be believed..), he suddenly 'woke up' for the sole purpose of voicing his support for the ANC... REALLY...????? 2 x PS: - learn to click on the person's comment where it says 'Reply to ....' - I prefer my first name 'DumAss' and not 'Blackie' please.. :)

      Cassandra - 2013-06-28 11:06

No, Blackie will do, your other is a term I'D prefer not to use. You don't like it don't reply.

  • Bliss Ignorancis - 2013-06-27 21:58

His fate lies with the effectiveness of the treatment he's receiving. Gods and ancestors have no roles here.

  • Lungy MaSnothi Madlala - 2013-06-27 22:19

Issue of being critical bt stable, i dnt think dat can be lies. I think it means Tatas' condition is serious bt its not getting more bad. Good people lets learn not to confuse two different situations. Our president is an adult, he deserve to be respected and he never lied about Tatas' condition. Please lets concentrate and keep praying for Madiba family now.

  • Sipho Mnguni - 2013-06-27 22:20

I just wish it was all true that Mandela's fate was in God's hands not the drugs that they are subjecting him to including the life support machines. That would make everything easier for his health to either continue naturally or otherwise. But that does not happen in a world inhabited by selfish people.

      Jammies Jamneck - 2013-06-27 22:31

Shipo it is a pitty that not all see it through your prespective. You are right, selfishness, limelight seekers the whole bunch.....riding on the fame of a man who deserve to die the same way he lived...with dignity...

      Sipho Mnguni - 2013-06-27 22:57

@Jammies:I fully agree with you on selfishness and greed. It is all about pre arranged birthday bash celebrations that people are expecting to milk it for all it worthwhile with total disregard for the man's suffering. What a shame! Money rules. Pathetic!

  • Mzi Ngubane - 2013-06-27 22:22

The racist and insult that is displayed by some people in this forum you can tell that it is motivated by hatred...what is even more hypocritical of this News24 is that no efforts has been done to ban or censor them as it will have been done us when we express our self...but whether you (News24) ban or censor us, we will remained resolute and tell as it is...majority of whites in this country are racists.

      Yolandè Bernice Solomons - 2013-06-27 22:31

eish Mr Ngubane let go of the anger and hatred. Learn from Madiba.

  • Bob Wowzer - 2013-06-27 22:22

  • Bianca-Anne P. Moll - 2013-06-27 23:32

Wise word, Mandla! Wise words and true. In the end only God decide what happens to our Tata, irrespective of the setting "free" and "release" the end those that have not lost, have no idea. It is not plug or not to plug ... it is relationship and people's father, grand-father. The ANC has done nothing wrong. We love Tata and yes, Tata will always fight back. He overcame so much, he will leave when God has called upon him to the gates of Heaven, where he will be with our Lord Jesus...when the times come.

  • Tommo Too - 2013-06-28 00:14

This Mandla is in big trouble with the ancestors I believe. And with the mayoress of Qunu. He dug up his relatives and the ancestors are not amused. ....
