Mandla Mandela denies land grab claims

2012-01-24 08:57

Mthatha - Former president Nelson Mandela's grandson Mandla Mandela has dismissed accusations by villagers claiming he expropriated land from them to build a stadium and a hotel in the Eastern Cape, it was reported on Tuesday.

The Star newspaper said the villagers wanted to stop Mandela's development plans as they would disregard their ancestral land and gravesites.

Mandela told the Mthatha Regional Court that the claims were scurrilous, ill-founded, defamatory and inflammatory.

He said the three men who were representing the affected families had no case as the representatives of the families had given the Mvezo Development Trust permission to proceed with developments on the land.

"They recorded that they commit as rightful owners of the land within the development site to the resolution of 2007 as facilitated by the department of land affairs... that the said property be part of development through the Mvezo Development Trust as the owning agency," Mandela said.

  • Ofentse - 2012-01-24 09:10

And they all claim to be poverty champions while their bank accounts get bigger and bigger at the misery of their own people its beyond shame

Now maybe everyone will start realising that land grabs are going to affect everyone in this country. Contrary to popular belief, people of all races own land.

With all respect to our forefathers, it is really sad to see people blocking the development claiming they protecting their grandfathers graves yet they will be the ones on our television screens complaining about the government not creating jobs for them. I think if only they would come clean and say we want this much share in the development of our area it would be much better because that's what this is all about, all the rich fighting only because one will get richer out of this and others won't....

He denies. That means all the complaintants are liars. It is possible.

Nelson Mandela's father, Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa, was the chief "by blood and custom" of Mvezo, a position confirmed by the paramount chief of the Thembu, Jongintaba Dalindyebo. The clan name of Madiba, which is often used as a form of address for Mandela, comes from the ancestral chief. The sons of the third wife (known as the Left Hand House) were destined to become advisors to the chief. Nelson Mandela was the son of the third wife, Noqaphi Nosekeni, and could have otherwise expected to become a royal advisor. So it is a fallacy and a lie that Mandla Mandela is suppose to be the Chief of Mvezo! Mandela was given that role as a token of appriciation but he was never rightful heir to the throne! But then again these are the facts that we choose to look away from for the sake of progress in this country! If they are doing this to the people then we have no choice but to tell the truth as we see it!

      Thank you Phumi.

This guy would be zero if it wasnt for his grandfather! Greed and the use of Mandelas name is what has fuelled him to this point and once again proves that there is no "uplifment for ALL" in the minds of these guys-its ALL about how much he can grab!

  • Fenderbender - 2012-01-24 12:39

Obviously he will deny it, he want to be left alone to plunder and steel in the name of madiba.
