Johannesburg - A mortuary in Ratanda near Heidelburg was broken into and the body of a man was removed and dumped outside, Gauteng police said on Saturday.

"This morning the employees in a mortuary in Ratanda, East Rand, arrived and found a burglary," said Lieutenant Kay Makhubela.

"One body was stolen from the mortuary and found dumped outside."

A case of business burglary was opened, but nobody had been arrested by mid-morning on Saturday.

Police were still trying to find out if any body parts were removed from the mortuary.

Makhubela said the private undertaker asked that his company's name not be given to the media.
