Manuel: Everyone must be a Mandela

2013-06-27 12:29

Johannesburg - Every person must remember the contribution former president Nelson Mandela has made to the country, Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel said on Thursday.

"I think that is what is important to remember," he said in Johannesburg.

"We must carry forward his legacy... Everyone has to be a Nelson Mandela."

Whatever Madiba had worked to achieve, including democracy, was a success.

Manuel said Mandela's physical presence was only one part of it.

"We... understand that his physical presence is only one part of it... his spiritual presence [must] live on," he said.

The elderly statesman, 94, is in a critical condition in a Pretoria hospital, where he was admitted with a recurring lung infection on 8 June.

I wonder if Mandela realised that he was risking his life for idiots like Bardof Blairgowrie, James Pickering and Chris Langley, if he would have bothered. Lucky for us he realised that only a hand full on uneducated walked the country aimlessly and fought anyways..... The true definition of Stupidity can only be described by those 3.

I wonder if he realised he was risking his life for Zuma, Angie, Tina, Julius, Susan, Nosiviwe, Riah or Lulu, he would have bothered?

      Jacqui Daane Van Rensburg - 2013-06-27 14:39

"If there are dreams about a beautiful South Africa, there are also roads that lead to their goal. Two of these roads could be named Goodness and Forgiveness." - Madiba May South Africa forever remember what Madiba stood for and may we as a country continue to work towards the beautiful South Africa we know is possible!

  • Israel - 2013-06-27 12:58

"Whatever Madiba had worked to achieve, including democracy, was a success".......... Please.......define "success" - our country is in a diabolical shambles in every respect with a government comprising absolute fools intent on personal enrichment at the peril of the people it's supposed to serve and you consider this a success??

      Mc Apple - 2013-06-27 13:28

I would also want to know what the ANC’s definition of “democracy” is.

  • DjBas - 2013-06-27 13:27

Everyone must be a Mandela?. What a laugh coming from the likes of you. If you were half a Mandela, you wouldn't be in government.

      Jomo Kgomo - 2013-06-27 14:45

Jacque - Most of the people who are in government Tata himself approved and endorsed their names. I think your understand of ANC is unfortunately very limited.

  • Robert Dood - 2013-06-27 15:04

    Guilty of high treason

  • Ronald Magombedze - 2013-06-27 16:40

I think Manuel is simply saying the nation should embrace what Madiba fought for, believed in and lived for, a rainbow nation without racism, tribalism, favouritism, sexism, or any form of segregation

  • Rob Tubbs - 2013-06-27 18:02
