Mpumalanga ANC secretary, Lucky Ndinisa, has threatened disgruntled party members due to march to the provincial office this morning that they will be disciplined.

Branches disenchanted with Premier David Mabuza’s leadership have gathered at the Mbombela Rugby Stadium and are now marching to the January “Che” Masilela Building.

“I told them as the secretary that they should not march and as far as we’re concerned there’s no march. It follows that if they ignore my instructions there will be a disciplinary process,” Ndinisa said.

The ANC provincial executive committee suspended a member, Peter Nyoni, on Monday following allegations that he was organising the march under the banner of the Save Mpumalanga ANC group.

The Save Mpumalanga ANC group came into being just before a provincial general council took a resolution earlier this year that Mabuza should be re-elected for a third term as provincial ANC chairperson in an elective conference scheduled to take place in October.

Mabuza has been accused of being a dictator and purging those who have a different view on the matter.

The Mabuza camp allegedly imposed the decision on branch members and those opposed to it were excluded from the party’s activities.

The more than 200 members marching to the provincial office include senior ANC leaders, former Mbombela mayor Isaiah Khoza and former legislature member Boy Nobunga.

Police and ANC members clad in camouflage uniforms are guarding the ANC offices as the marchers approach.
