Marikana speedster caught in Joburg

2012-09-27 13:12

Johannesburg - A man was caught driving at 172km/h in a 120km/h zone on the R21 highway near Olifantsfontein, Johannesburg traffic police said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalu said the speedster, who was an employee at the Marikana mine in the North West, said he had been rushing to collect and deliver work supplies.

"He was taken to Olifantsfontein police station where he was charged with reckless driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit," said Nxumalu.

He was released on bail of R1 000 and was expected to appear soon in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court.

To be arrested for a speeding violation is a joke, the law says the purpose of arrest is to secure the attendance of the acused in court and should be used as a last resort, its not der to punish a person ,those traffic cops need to go back to the books, because I'm sure if they knew were he works that means ,his details were given voluntary .der was no need for arrest, jail is for criminals

Desperation to have a headline. Rather establish if the Corrie Sanders murderers were connected to the Marikana lot of thugs. Because marikana is a headline if someone p!ss^d on ther road there it would make a headline. It is due to this kind of reporting that Julius Malema has a stage.
