Matric pupil shot dead by hijackers

2012-10-26 09:16

Johannesburg - A matric pupil from the East Rand, who was en route to friends to study for the final exams, died shortly after being shot in the face by hijackers, Beeld newspaper reported on Friday.

Minke Aucamp, 18, who was a pupil at the Jurgens High School in Springs, was shot in the mouth as she was leaving her parents' driveway in her Hyundai Atos on Thursday.

A domestic worker, who gave her name only as Ally, told police that she had heard a scream and two gunshots at around noon.

She ran to the garage, where she found Minke lying on the ground and saw the Atos being driven away.

Police and paramedics arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, and Minke was airlifted to hospital in Alberton, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

She was the only child of Carol and Willie Aucamp, who told reporters on Thursday that they had waited ten years to have her.

"She was so young... they could have just taken the car," a devastated Willie Aucamp told Beeld.

Police are searching for the hijacked car, with registration number ZPB435GP.

All strength to Mr and Mrs Aucamp. We feel your pain.

      scouter.fourone - 2012-10-26 10:23

No matter how hard I try, I cannot understand the mentality that would shoot a young defenceless girl in cold blood. Savage indifference is about the only description I can come up with - and that is far from strong enough and falls so short of what I feel. My heart goes out to the family - I cannot begin to imagine what they must be going through right now. SA society has become a disgrace to humanity - that's the harsh reality.

      luther.kingsley.5 - 2012-10-26 10:33

Living among demons... this family will never recover from this tragedy, we cannot begin to imagine the pain they are going through.

      rbphiri - 2012-10-26 11:56

"She was the only child of Carol and Willie Aucamp, who told reporters on Thursday that they had waited ten years to have her". So sad that after such a long wait, some A-holes took her life within seconds! She was enroute to go study with friends in order to obtain her matric and the irony is that these f*ken idiots who took her life possibly don't even have matric and the term STUDY may come off as foreign to them. If our butthole president keeps dishing out remission of sentences like it's christmas than petty criminals will never learn from their mistakes and their crimes will inevitably escalate to murder! Enough is enough, if the government fail to curb the surge in heinous crimes in the country, they shouldn't blame society for taking the law into their own hands. But the government is afraid of imposing lengthy sentences for criminals, since this will ultimately mean that they are shooting themselves in the foot...since most criminals are in parliament.

Mack.myburgh. We are all angry and tomorrow we will be angry again. While, in our helpnessness, we are angry, we are also powerless and according to me that is even worse. Especially since we know none of the so called leaders of this country will have anything to say, other than order more Jack Daniels and bullet proof glass for their mansions. We need an uprising, we sure do. We, as a people have forgotten our power, it is about time we regain it and take this country back. If black and white stand together, who can win from us?.

  • flysouth - 2012-10-26 09:53

Who can claim there is no death penalty in SA? Yes, there is - and it is carried out daily against innocents such as this by vicious thugs who know they will not be caught and punished. In this case there can be no reason to kill the young girl - what resistance could she possibly offer? Thus one has to believe there are definite racist overtones here, as there often are. Ultimately one wonders if the civil war, supposedly avoided in 1992 - 1994 by 'negotiations' would not have resulted in less casualties over time. In reality that civil war has been proceeding under the name of 'crime' and we have seen at least 300 000 murdered by criminals and untold numbers injured - and for as long as we have a conviction rate of 0.6% this will continue. It could be argued that a civil war, where the old SADF was brought fully into action, would have avoided this death toll amongst civilian victims and cleared the way for negotiations rather different to those which actually occurred.

      heibrin.venter - 2012-10-26 09:58

The problem would have been that we then had a very, very competent, highly trained and motivated military force, it would have been what we're experiencing today, just in reverse and on a much, much larger scale. The time for it is coming though...

I wonder what the government's reaction would be if I sent them an ultimatum: the day after a crime like this takes place a government official dies, every time it happens, until such time as they start actively pursuing these criminals, and removing them from society. Start easy, with the local government up first, then moving on to national government.
