Johannesburg - A matriculant died when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle in Welgelegen in Limpopo, a day before his matric farewell, Beeld reported on Saturday.

Wiam Page, 18, a pupil at Hoër Tegniese Skool Tom Naud, died in the accident on Thursday, while he was travelling home on his Honda 150cc motorcycle on Generaal Viljoen street in the area.

A local resident, Louisa de Kock, who witnessed the accident told the Afrikaans newspaper that Page was driving behind a vehicle that applied brakes as it went over a speed bump.

Page then swerved onto the right lane to avoid crashing into the vehicle.

Another vehicle then drove out the parking lot of a butchery and turned infront of Page's motorcycle.

Page hit the vehicle on the right front side.

"I don't think the driver of the car or Wiam saw each other," de Kock told Beeld.

The matric farewell was on Friday.
