Durban - EThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo condemned the rape and murder of a Grade 3 pupil on Wednesday when he visited Mzwilili Junior Primary School in Umlazi.

"We condemn this senseless killing and call for the harshest sentence possible once these perpetrators have been apprehended," Nxumalo said.

Nonjabulo Sabela, 8, went missing on 22 February, her body was found last Thursday in an overgrown bush near her school, Mzwilili Junior Primary School.

Nxumalo said the rape and killing of the Sabela was inhumane.

"Only an animal would do such a thing, I don't know what has gone wrong with our people," the mayor said.

"As a parent I also get worried when my children leave for school every morning because of such incidents that are taking place in our communities."

What does he mean by "the harshest sentence possible?" I hope these thugs are caught and punished. Hanging is too good for such vile people.
