2015-07-17 10:44

While giving an update on the health of her hospitalised father, Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said doctors are confident Archbishop Desmond Tutu's cancer is under control.WATCH

Cape Town - Former president Thabo Mbeki visited ailing Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu in a Cape Town hospital on Thursday.

In a statement from Tutu's foundation, his daughter Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said he and his family were "very moved by the support over the past few weeks from people across the world".

In a photograph sent by the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, Mbeki is seen with a smiling Tutu. His daughter is also present.

Tutu, 83, was readmitted to hospital a week after he was discharged after expressing renewed discomfort, his daughter said at the time.

She said his admission to hospital was unrelated to his prostate cancer treatment and that he was likely to remain in hospital until the weekend.
