Comedians weigh in on 'Oscar Pistorius' Czech mate'

2015-03-13 17:45

This week in Real News with Funny People, we speak about a man who shipped himself around the world in a box, a country who accidentally legalised drugs, and Oscar Pistorious playing soccer with Radovan Krejcir.WATCH

Pretoria - Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir on Wednesday told journalists that he was missing his "friend" Oscar Pistorius and joked that the two should play for English football giants Chelsea after they are released from prison.

Krejcir and Pistorius have been sharing the hospital wing of the Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria.

Paralympian star Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide after he shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine's Day two years ago. He claimed to have mistaken her for an intruder.

Krejcir and Pistorius seemed to have formed a good friendship since his incarceration late last year.

The pair were reportedly training together and last month, a video was released showing Krejcir and Pistorius playing soccer on the prison grounds.

Before being whisked away by police from the Germinston Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Krejcir was asked whether he was missing Pistorius.

"Yes, yes, I do," he replied with a chuckle.

"We must play for Chelsea when we are released," he said.

'I did not shoot Lolly Jackson'

Krejcir also told journalists outside the court that he had not shot Teazers boss Lolly Jackson.

Cypriot national George Louka, who was extradited to South Africa to answer to the murder, has reportedly written a statement which fingers Krejcir in the murder.

Louka is currently being kept in the hospital wing of the Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria. His lawyers claim he is battling lung cancer and does not have long to live.

"Well I am terribly sorry about his sickness, but I hope he will have enough courage before he dies to say that I wasn't involved in the Lolly Jackson murder," a handcuffed Krejcir told reporters as he was escorted to the police van by heavily armed police men.

He had just appeared in the court for a separate matter.

"I'm hoping he will disclose the people who paid him or convinced him to make a deal with the State and involving me in this story," Krejcir said.

He was previously kept at the hospital wing of the same prison as his lawyers claimed he had kidney problems.

It was understood that Krejcir had since been moved from the wing to prevent him from having any contact with Louka.

Sam Issa murder case

Krejcir and three others had been in the dock for the murder of Lebanese national Sam Issa.

Issa was gunned down in a drive by shooting in his Audi Q7 in Bedfordview on October 12, 2013.

It was alleged a white Ford Ranger pulled up next to him and the occupants opened fire, killing him.

Krejcir, Nkanyiso Mafunda and Siboniso Miya and Simphiwe Memela have since been linked to the crime.

They face charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

As their matter was heard on Wednesday, prosecutor Lawrence Xaba requested that the matter be postponed to June 30 for further investigation.

He claimed the State was almost done with its investigations but had some loose ends to tie up, including getting results of DNA analysis.

High profile matter

Krejcir's lawyer, Piet du Plessis was opposed to the court giving the state a lengthy postponement.

He argued that the case was a 2010 matter. He submitted that this was a high profile matter which besides media interest, required the presence of the police's tactical response team (TRT).

The heavily armed TRT was positioned both outside and inside the court room.

The court granted Xaba's request and the matter was postponed to June 30.

Before proceedings were adjourned, Du Plessis said the court should note that if the State asked for another postponement, he would request that the investigating officer be put to the stand to explain the delay.

Johann Spangenberg for the other accused agreed with him.
