Media await Oscar Pistorius check-in

2013-02-25 07:57

Pretoria - Scores of journalists milled outside the Brooklyn Police Station, east of Pretoria, on Monday morning, awaiting the arrival of paralympian Oscar Pistorius.

Pistorius was granted R1m bail on Friday in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court. As part of the bail conditions, he was ordered to report to the Brookyln Police Station twice a week - on Mondays and Fridays.

News crews erected small tents and gazebos along Duxbury road, outside the police station. Passing motorists slowed down curiously with a few asking if Pistorius had already checked in.

The world-famous athlete was arrested on 14 February for the murder of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home.

Please tell us these idiots are not South African journalists?

      liam.dafydd - 2013-02-25 08:23

      @Sarah: Probably very balanced.

      liam.dafydd - 2013-02-25 08:25

Seeing as the media reports on anything; let us know when Oscar takes a dump!

      punungwe - 2013-02-25 08:37

Most of them are South African of course

      punungwe - 2013-02-25 08:38

The Pistorius family have treated the Steencamps distantly. Are they blaming Reeva for something.

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-02-25 09:03

Do we really need a photo of him reporting to the police or are they hoping for an incident? Or perhaps trying to create one? - 2013-02-25 09:09

Do these reporters have NOTHING better to do??? This is so sickening ... No wonder our reporting is so useless ... the reporters are bunch of nitwits....

      janice.mcmaster.92 - 2013-02-25 09:56

They are vultures!!! Leave the man alone!!!

      malcolm.james.macleod - 2013-02-25 10:05

@squeegee - They are presumably there in case he shows up late or not at all so that they can be the 'first' to break the story. Whether they actually hope that this will happen or not is I guess up for intepretation and probably varies on an individual basis, but at the end of the day they are basically just doing their jobs I guess.

  • Sarah - 2013-02-25 08:02

    Are these South African journalists????

  • Danilo Speelman - 2013-02-25 08:06

if he ran away, this would make interesting news

      Anton - 2013-02-25 09:09

  • Gauzyciouz Mogau Sebola - 2013-02-25 08:12

why? because is pistorius they charge him 1m bail why those who killed their partners got a bail of below 5thousand bt now is him they grant him 1m bail ,this sa law is unfair

      Tyrone Gavin Fester - 2013-02-25 08:16

This SA'n law stinks..... to be quite honest!

      brytzishiri - 2013-02-25 09:03

bail is charged according to your possesions (net worth e.t.c), it is designed to make you not want to flee because you will forfeit the money to state. Do you think oscar will be afraid of loosing 5thousand ?

  • annette.kruger.50 - 2013-02-25 08:14

    What a joke!

  • flynn.govender - 2013-02-25 08:30

Why??? Oscar is going to go to the police station probably in the back entrance, sign in and thereafter leave the police station. There will be nothing for the media to cover when Oscar go to the police station

      Zinhle Mbambo - 2013-02-25 10:46

  • henk.venter.754 - 2013-02-25 09:32

you are a bunch of SICK bastards!!! Get a job!!!

  • michele.rainsford - 2013-02-25 09:47

This is getting out of hand... the guy is paying his dues every second of his life!! But the ongoing harassment and torment - is that really necessary?! Totally sick - all these people whom thrive on a FAMILIES heartache - that includes trying to nail his brother for something dated back to 2008 and camping outside his uncle's house. GIVE THEM A BREAK NOW - have you any idea the impression you're giving the foreigners... I have read some very concerning comments from people abroad about the "compassion" our country seems to have lost. I truely hope this extent of this nonsense gets a stop put too.... remember Princess Di. Come on. Enough now. Let God be the judge.

      chris.kleynhans - 2013-02-25 11:42

Maybe you should show some of your compassion to a family in the Eastern Cape that didn't expect somebody who could supposedly be trusted to empty his gun on her. Come on, fair is fair!

  • eagles.eyes.54 - 2013-02-25 10:04

Are we ever gonna get the last of this anytime soon?

  • chris.kleynhans - 2013-02-25 10:31

Sometimes I wonder if it was ever worth it to have come to this planet...between all the cricket and sport and bail chasing vultures, who are actually sitting down and do a day's honest work?

  • christelle.woudberg - 2013-02-25 11:01

Surely there must be better stories to report on than this!
