Medical student raped, murdered in res

2013-03-27 10:00

Durban - A medical student who was apparently only weeks away from completing her degree has been found raped and murdered in her student residence room in Durban.

The 24-year-old woman, who was not named, was found in her room in St Hillier Court in Umbilo on Monday night, reported the Daily News.

A fellow student told how they had to break down the door to get to her.

“Apparently her parents had been trying to get hold of her, but she was not answering,” the student said.

She added that she saw the woman’s father go into the room.

“I proceeded to my room which is two floors above hers and the next thing I heard were these awful screams. I heard the father crying and saying ‘oh my child’ but I was too scared to go down and see,” she said.

“I am scared for our safety and our lives because we really do not know what happened to her. She only had a few weeks left before she became a doctor.”

A police spokesperson said a 27-year-old man had handed himself over to police and had been arrested for murder.

Welcome to the republic of Zumaville

      Jack Frost - 2013-03-27 23:53

Not so long ago the President assured South Africans they were safe. She took his word for it. Now she is dead. He should be charged by her family with complicity to murder for misleading the population. Impeachment should be the very least penalty.

      derek.francois.3 - 2013-03-29 03:18

We should all move into Zuma's bunker..........

      Victor Mukwebo - 2013-04-02 00:44

Eish!!!!!!! what a loss to the family,Criminals have more rights this nowadays that why people are not afraid to commit murder, what can we say!nevertheles only God know why all this .may your soul rest in peace lady.

  • johan.mostert.967 - 2013-03-27 10:06

Murderers and rapists should be publicly executed.

      Charl Malan - 2013-03-27 11:01

Public crucifixions @ half time rugby on saturday evenings!

      anitaj2010 - 2013-03-27 13:07

Yes and think of the money it will save us in taxes we pay to look after these monsters in jail.

      Joe Soap - 2013-03-27 13:25

@ Jeremy Forbes ... "Murderers and rapists should be publicly executed. " If ANY BODY fit this 'profile' - make it public !!

      randomhero6661 - 2013-03-27 15:38

      Jeremy, jy is pous dom!

      Louwhan - 2013-03-27 17:00

@Jeremy What if you never made such a brilliant comment. ALL rapists and murderers MUST get the same treatment!

      Steele Oyle - 2013-03-27 17:01

When the Muslim countries do the same to criminals, everyone calls them savages. But it's ok to do the same here.

      1amAlan - 2013-03-27 17:22

I don't think everyone calls them savages. You'll find a lot more support than people let on. Personally I don't think I would like to see it done publicly, but do away with the scum, YES, YES, NB YES.

      Danie Theron - 2013-03-27 23:02

Jeremy Forbes should be publicly executed. Murderers and rapists, on the other hand, can be given a free pass to permanently retire in Nkandla.

      1amAlan - 2013-03-28 08:02

I may be wrong, but WRT Jeremy's comment, I don't think he's implying that at all. I think, and I stand open to correction, that he is saying would we be open to public executions if the person to be executed were white? I'm still not sure that I would want to witness anyone being executed publicly, but take my response as being the same as Joe Soap, maybe not publicly.

  • JuliusYouPrick - 2013-03-27 10:07

Yea just another day in sunny SA.

  • Paddy Mmanoko Mathekga - 2013-03-27 10:08

Oh no, Crime is really rampant in this country. Zuma and ministers; this is a crisis that needs your urgent attention. Stop wasting our money by sending our brothers and sisters to CAR.

      Paddy Mmanoko Mathekga - 2013-03-27 11:48

Robin & Francois. What makes you to perceive I voted ANC?. That's a wrong perception. Atleast now you know that not all people vote for colour.

      gary.parker.75839 - 2013-03-27 11:49

@Luyanda Khaboyise Msipha @ChiefKeef Sosa: so what you both are saying is that, you would rather vote for a terrible govt, to cheese off someone you don't like and suffer under a horrific government than swallow your pride and listen to the point he and others are making? Very mature.

      craig.vanstade - 2013-03-27 12:43

It is people such as Francois and Robin who hurt the DA even further! They are to blind to see it though. With their help the ANC will continue ruling this country and running it into the ground!

  • Unknown - 2013-03-27 10:11

If only there was a place for him in the next 20 years where he could feel the fear she felt but in every single one of his days for the rest of his life. Then maybe half of the justice would be served. It's really enough. We need to take action against this filth.

  • Garrick Dunstan - 2013-03-27 10:11

Screw human rights the man must be removed from society permanently, that is the only way to stop this behaviour

      johan.mostert.967 - 2013-03-27 17:35

I'll say, if you attack someone else's rights, you must loose yours. If you murder someone, you must have no right to live, if you rape someone, you must loose your right to dignity.

  • Simphiwe Tladi - 2013-03-27 10:13

Please bring back the death sentence!

      Monique Naude - 2013-03-27 10:31

Simphiwe, I agree. If there is the ultimate punishment for such heinous crimes, people may start acting responsibly and thinking of the punishment that could await them. It seems that the morals instilled in people are all wrong.

      Simphiwe Tladi - 2013-03-27 11:25

Yes Jamba, they need to be dragged with the SAPS vans and the training dummies for the TRT's...not the law abiding citizens.

      Frans Visser - 2013-03-27 12:01

I for one do not want the Death Penalty back. Our cops and justice system is so bad at the moment it would be like handing a baby a loaded gun. I don't trust the cops or the courts in SA any more....not enough to let them loose with the death penalty.

      johan.mostert.967 - 2013-03-27 17:36

Agree with fransvisserdsb, anyway, with the ANC in charge, only the opposition speaking out against the ANC will get the long drop and sudden stop.

  • kenny.kwenamore - 2013-03-27 10:22

May the rapist/murderer ROT in a scorpion infested pigsty

  • Mncedisi Pride Blakfesi - 2013-03-27 10:28

Our constitution needs to be reviewed. This is not acceptable.I mean,I grew up in the apartheid era but I didn't new the meaning of rape until I was matured enough. But today my six year old can tell and teach me about it.It is morally not correct. Our people had already taken to the streets to show disaproval in vain. What do we need to do.I appeal to all the bodyguards of the lawmakers to withdraw their servises so that we can have all of them(law makers and their families)raped and murdered, may be it's then that we can have a speedy solution.

  • Valerie Adams - 2013-03-27 10:30

This is just so so sad. I cannot even find the words to describe my utter dismay in what is happening in our country, my heart goes out to that poor father who had to witness his daughter in that state.

  • David Appleby - 2013-03-27 10:31

Just do what needs to be done, bring back the death penalty it is the only way to stop this evil

  • Magda Henning - 2013-03-27 10:32

Jacob Zuma and you said our country is safe. You are bluffing yourself. We know better.

  • Bizzah Makibinyane - 2013-03-27 10:32

we really need Divine intervention, South Afriva is seriously sick and the only way to heal it is through prayer, come on South Africans, its time up, we really cant leave like this. may her soul rest in peace, the next thing that bustard will be walking sentenced to 15 years and enjoying R8000 rand month of our tax in jail.

      msophiasharp - 2013-03-27 10:41

Not just prayers, discipline and punishment befitting trespasses even whilst at school - we had to learn that way and after being disciplined and punished with a wooden ruler, rottang and electric cord on our behind, we are still alive and law abiding citizens....

  • CarlErler - 2013-03-27 10:35

Again there is NO consequence for what people do in South Africa. A bank robber and escapee gets 66 years . A rapist / Murderer gets 10 to 15. Something is wrong with that LOGIC or should i say LACK OF LOGIC. Its is actually so basic to resolve the situation in SA but they cry what about Human Rights ? My Point Exactly "Their Human Rights" .. In short the general population of SA are not HUMAN ??? WHAT ABOUT VICTIM RIGHTS ????

      Dan Moore - 2013-03-27 17:12

Agree completely what does that say about a human being? You are worth less than paper fiat money? In the US we sentence drug dealers to longer sentences than sex offenders which is just as wrong. It's simple you rape you die. You want to rape and mutilate I will hang you in public or let your victims stone you to death. If not a deterent atleast exterminate the scum that are a virus to SA. If someone did that to my loved one I would give justice a chance and then if need be I would serve up justice.

  • Quenton Crafford - 2013-03-27 10:36

We always complain and say bring back death penalty, lets stand up for these tortured people, but does anyone actually do anything about it though? I say everyone has something to say, why not put action into your words, draw up a petition, march through the streets and demand the death penalty to be re instated, I am not saying I will be able to lead many in a march or rally, but why don't we all stand together and make the president and the ministers and the country hear our voices!!! Disgusting the lot of them.....

      Dan Moore - 2013-03-27 17:16

Does SA have a political process to remove politicans from office? Because if so that is long overdue. You have an accused rapist and polygamist as President and you expect that the women of your country will be respected that's not possible. Stop and think about that long and hard. How does your supreme leader effect positive change when he doesn't believe in woman's rights himself?

      Quenton Crafford - 2013-03-28 08:12

@ Dan Moore, And if you look above i got one thumbs down as well for this, i can almost guarantee this is someone who is so either been in the raping or killing him/herself, fair play. We have a president who does not care about his country nor the people living in it, but more about how nice his house looks and building another room for his next wife and how ever many kids. People are obviously gonna say this is racism but in the end of the day a life is a life... Whether it be black or white, the killer/rapist has more rights these days then us. I think everyone has wondered if they could remove anyone of these corrupt ministers, politicians, presidents, but who does anything about it these days? NO ONE, we are too afraid and just accept these things no wonder our crime rate has sky rocketed!!! I am embarrassed to say I am a South African

  • Ophelia Louw - 2013-03-27 10:36

What is with the crime in this country of ours. lately thats all we hear about rape and murder. May her soul rest in peace. Our country needs prayer, the men of this country need prayer.

      Dan Moore - 2013-03-27 17:19

There is more than enough prayer............what you need is action. Use that anger to effect positive change. Oust those corrupt leaders put in place severe punishments for rape and murder and things will change. God helps those that help themselves. Talk is cheap time for action SA!

  • Chantall Klaasen Shibodze - 2013-03-27 10:36

indeed, sad, what hav our society become, where we dont have any regard for life..RIP

  • Rampant - 2013-03-27 10:37

Could zuma please explain to me the rights of the victim and the rights of the assailant.Does the student enjoy any Human Rights? Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you. The anc is promoting crime in this country. The innocent are not protected.AN EYE FOR AN EYE.

  • Andre Fourie - 2013-03-27 10:38

    Death penalty.

  • PointBlank - 2013-03-27 10:39

When are we going to rise up again? You know who these people are, they your brothers, fathers, friends and husbands. If someone in your community has nothing and then soddenly has everything why are you keeping quiet? The reason house robberies is so high is because their is demand for stolen goods, and you buy these without a blink of an eye. We need to put major pressure on govt not chatter on comment sections.

  • Jack Bongani Phala - 2013-03-27 10:40

but why do other people kill others when they have option to just walk away.

      Dan Moore - 2013-03-27 17:23

The truth because they can in SA? If you were brought up seeing violence and abuse and there was almost no one to stop you would continue if you were a hardened criminal.......yes you would.

  • Siboniso Mathenjwa - 2013-03-27 10:40

      dean.redelinghuys - 2013-03-27 11:03

@Luyanda....I have to agree with Francois, until we as South africans, who care about our country and all its people, vote out the officials who are allowing this to happen nothing will change. The message must be clear, if you want the big salary, fancy car and home you better do your job or we will vote for someone else.

      Siboniso Mathenjwa - 2013-03-27 11:20

it will end when the ANC goverment is out, franco is right

  • Humbulani Mudzanani - 2013-03-27 10:45

  • Michael Jackwood - 2013-03-27 10:48

Until there is political will to tighten up border control, we can not have peace in this country, our childred, wives, mothers, and sisters are in danger, some of this crimes including farm murders are commited by people who do not have identification documents.

      Colleen Erasmus - 2013-03-27 11:33

I wish they would bring in the stringent border control procedures like they have in OZ, England and the UK! You can't go through until you have proof of of why u entering and everything is questionned.

  • Neil Moorgas - 2013-03-27 11:21

WTF is happening in SA - it's time for the introduction of the Death Penalty, it's time Government listens to the tax payers and not the criminals - wake up SA!
