Medicine dumped in Eastern Cape

2012-07-21 10:02

East London - Several boxes of unopened medicines were found dumped in Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

"The medicines have not been used and we found many boxes," said  Mzukisi Fatyela.

The boxes were found near a forest in the Mvezo locality on Friday.

"We are not sure which hospital it was destined for, or what the value of it is," he said.

Police have asked the provincial Health Department to assist them.

The SAPS must get to the bottom of this "dumping season". Textbooks, police caps, SASSA files, medicines (what is next?)are all scarce resources needed desparately by intended recipients!

      keith.murphy.9638 - 2012-07-21 11:16

why not dump a couple million dollars

      sharon.a.marks.9 - 2012-07-21 11:35

they are training for the next elections, thats when the ballot boxes get dumped

      rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-07-21 13:11

Rather dump any public servant who has either not had or has performed poorly on a performance appraisal....AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT. It is not harsh to include those that have not had because in all of these cases the individuals should be demanding a review from their superiors!

      karen.campbell.98031506 - 2012-07-22 08:50

The issue is about performance not being managed - but this is because the EPMDS (Employee Performance Management and Development System) for job grades 1 to 12 is VOLUNTARY. The one for job grades 13 (Director level and upwards) is compulsory.

This will continue-wether it be school books, medicine or anything else of value, until we have a RESPONSIBLE goverment, who will take pride in seeing that the people of this country start getting the services they need. Until there is accountability for corruption along with fitting punishment,a tender process which is monitored by an outside party and voters who start voting with their brain!!! It is just accepted as the norm in S.A that fraudsters escape justice on "medical" reasons, that children are pathetically educated and the sick receive appauling health care. All we get from the ruling party is a lot of lip service and empty promises! I wish blacks in this country would take a good, long hard look and show me how the quality of their lives has realy improved post apartheid!!!

      keith.murphy.9638 - 2012-07-21 11:17

This will go on as long as the anc is in power

      gieljam.gomtor - 2012-07-21 12:17

I think the Government must Just get one more Minister ( possibly with a PhD bestowed degree)to run the dept of Dumping Affairs , because SA has become one big waste land with all the sewage , sour water , pollution and dumping taking place .

  • Ditantane - 2012-07-21 10:20

how about we also start dumping, and i suggest we start with the president and his ministers.

Hello disciplened cadres of our movement! Is this how public healthcare system is run? Why dont you fire the whole bunch of criminals who are running this department and ask the army for assistance(with logistics) while you recruit people with the requisite skills to run this department efficiently and cost-effectively.

      shirley.steenkamp - 2012-07-21 11:05

They would have to fire everyone-because where the ruling party is concerned they have adopted the idea tha it is their God given right to help themselves to what belongs to ALL South Africans!

  • tony.naidoo - 2012-07-21 11:02

Wow! Limpopo education clerk has a second job with Eastern Cape health department? If this man is so competent, he should be employed as Zoom Zoom's personal valet!

  • Pennie - 2012-07-21 11:21

Why cant we go dump this whole bloody government somewhere?

      shirley.steenkamp - 2012-07-21 11:36

You would be accused of dumping toxic waste!

      LDivaCantrelle - 2012-07-21 12:52

      lol Shirley u kill me!

      Erna - 2012-07-21 14:30

No truck big enough to carry that load! Have you seen the size of most of them?

  • markhams.hudivhannyimudanamafhungo - 2012-07-21 11:27

what is the expiring dates of the medicine?

  • Senzo Mathebula - 2012-07-21 11:31

Surely these medicines origin can easly be traced. The journalist should give us the complete story. Was the delivery van Hi-Jacked... Were the medicines expired? There's a lot of possibilities, as far as I'm concerned the reporter failed us here.

      Enrico Salie - 2012-07-21 11:46

Dont you think the journalist would have done it's research regarding this, if there was a truck delivering medicine hijacked dont you think the Health Department would have made it public so that they can gain some public favour. Since their service delivery record is of a poor state.

      Barefoot - 2012-07-21 12:39

      Private or government?

      siya.miti - 2012-07-21 13:28

B4 u pass the blame game to the reporter, the journalist has not failed. There's an opportunity for followup in this story but it seems to me 1. The reporter got info thru a police source. 2. The reporter wanted to get the story out there as soon as possible. 3. The reporter had a followup for Monday in mind, with no access to admin systems in the health department, he/ she will depend on sources in the DoHealth can fill the blanks

  • Enrico Salie - 2012-07-21 11:36

Now once again they will blame a low level clerck for this, like they did in Limpopo with the textbooks. When will they held the senior officials accountable. They the ones that is being employed to manage these processes and ensure things are being done properly.

  • rhkriek - 2012-07-21 13:13

Must have been planted by the ANC to make up for the Limpopo books.

      Erna - 2012-07-21 14:24

Wrong - it was done by outside agents to make them look bad. Always someone else to blame!

  • maryjane.mphahlele - 2012-07-21 13:25

shame its disturbing that someone does that, people need medicne while a stupid person throws it away.

  • max.maxwell - 2012-07-21 13:36

Meanwhile, our clinics are shut because they have no drugs! When they enquire with the Provincial Office, they are told the medicines have been sent, but none ever arrive! And still the people die from T.B. and other diseases, because they cannot afford to travel to a hospital! Someone should be shot!

  • tando.nqweniso - 2012-07-21 16:30

This is geting out of hand,it needs to be thoroughly investigeted and whoeva is behind that should be punished acordingly, people are dying there
