Johannesburg - Two men were killed and another man and woman injured early Monday morning when two cars collided head-on on the R554 beneath the Barry Marais bridge near Carnival City in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg, paramedics said.

"Common cause information suggests that an errant party strayed from their allocated lane and pushed into oncoming traffic," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks.

The collision caused one car to overturn and roll repeatedly.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the driver and passenger in the rolled car had sustained critical injuries. Both were declared dead on the scene.

The man and woman in the other car were found lying near it and were treated on the scene by paramedics, said Wicks.

The man was seriously injured while the woman was in a critical condition. The two were transported to a private medical facility for further treatment.

Police were investigating.

When will drivers actually start taking DRIVING seriously. Today's cars are NOT toys, but potent machines, if in the wrong hands could kill. DONT be a stupid driver....enjoy your ride!!!!

Speed must have played a role and at least one driver must have had a driver's licence but no driver's knowledge. When will we ever learn.

"an errant party strayed from their allocated lane and pushed into oncoming traffic" Info only You can not "stray" into the oncomming traffic. There is a very wide grass verge dividing the road ( 2 lanes each ), plus, there is a ditch between them as well. There is a turn off though which you take and CROSS OVER the East bound lanes to gain access to Barais Marais, just befor the bridge for the west bound 2 lanes.

It is not only high speed that causes accidents. Slow drivers and careless drivers cause their fair share. Drivers need to travel at the speed of surrounding traffic, be alert at all times, and not take risky actions.
