Johannesburg - A Johannesburg metro police officer was in a critical condition in hospital after a shoot-out with a robber in Roodepoort on Wednesday, metro police said.

The robber bumped into the officer's motorcycle as he tried to get away in a bakkie from the robbery scene at the Flora shopping centre.

"A shoot-out ensued between the two. Both suffered gunshot wounds and are in hospital," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The suspected robber would face a charge of attempted murder as soon as he recovered, Minnaar said.

The SA Police Service was investigating the robbery at the centre.

Recovered? How about a pillow over his face until the kicking stops?
