2012-10-03 18:10

Johannesburg - A Johannesburg metro police officer died in hospital after a shoot-out with a robber in Roodepoort on Wednesday, metro police said.

"The officer died in the hospital after being admitted in a critical condition," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"That is all we can say at this point."

The robber bumped into the officer's motorcycle as he tried to get away in a bakkie from the robbery scene at the Flora shopping centre.

A shoot-out ensued between the two and both suffered gunshot wounds.

The suspected robber was still in hospital and would face a charge of attempted murder as soon as he recovered, Minnaar said.

Police were investigating.

The charge should be murder!!! NOT attempted murder. The criminal thug was successful in killing an officer. RSA should impliment the same law as in TEXAS. kill a cop you can see yourslef on death row. Done!!! NO BS NO PC crap. NO Human rights crap YOU PAY!!! Everyone knows that killing is wrong. But the hypocrisy that somehow now rights of the criminal supersede that of a victim. When criminals are given second chances when they obliterate the rights, life and family of their victims. SERIOUSLY LET THEM HANG. ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!! Culling of the rot form the heard
