Metro cop shoots Joburg motorist

2012-09-12 11:30

Johannesburg - A motorist was shot and wounded after he pointed a firearm at a metro police officer in an apparent road rage incident in Honeydew on Wednesday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the cars of the 24-year-old motorist and the off-duty metro police officer collided at the Christiaan de Wet and John Vorster intersection in Honeydew.

The metro police officer was with his girlfriend, a police officer, in the car.

The motorist allegedly grabbed the policewoman's firearm and pointed it at the metro police officer. The officer reached for his own firearm and shot the motorist in the leg.

Minnaar said the man was in a stable condition in hospital. No arrests had been made.

"cars of the 24-year-old motorist and the off-duty metro police officer collided at the Christiaan de Wet and John Vorster intersection in Honeydew." what does a off duty Police officer and his Girl friend do with fire-arms driving around???

    HUH? Kinda smells fishy.....

      kabelous.bogosi - 2012-09-13 10:44

I can make a movie out of this...

      RudiErnst - 2012-09-12 22:53

Nobody would believe the sh*t that goes down in this country. No movie here Peter, just sad South Africa... Sometimes wish it was a movie.

    Cowboy country this!!!

  • carol.harvey.9406 - 2012-09-12 12:06

Road rage seldom gets anyone anywhere. It's a waste of time and effort and very likely to get you into trouble of some sort, even more than you were in before the rage incident !

If you point a firearm at a cop, expect to get shot. The question is why did the motorist feel it necessary to take a firearm from a cop and point it at her cop partner.

      John - 2012-09-12 19:57

Never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to kill!

      chantypalm - 2012-09-13 09:10

The real questions are, Why was the OFF DUTY COPS carrying fire arms, and How did he get if from the police officer so easily...

  • afrikeni - 2012-09-12 12:07

How was this policewoman disarmed, firearms are being issued to incompetent cops. This story does not sound right & complete anyway!

      John - 2012-09-12 19:55

Get real! This is a bull faeces story!

  • diana.gill.18 - 2012-09-12 12:34

WE believe EVERYTHING the POLICE says. The lying scum only tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! Like hell, I'd like to meet just one! Oh, you must be one of them!

  • thandim - 2012-09-12 13:00

I dont think so...Something is fishy here...

  • mpummym - 2012-09-12 13:12

So funny how people are so quick to comment. I was there, the guy that got shot transports my kids to school. And half of this story is lies! Firstly he's not 24, he's younger than that, secondly he didnt grab any gun from anyone. The schoopid cop knocked the guy's side mirror, and didnt stop. My kids' transport driver tried to block him, they then stopped and got into a fist fight, then the cop drew out a gun, IN FRONT OF MY FAAKEN KIDS, and shot at the driver. I'm p!ssed and I'll do something about his @ss for traumatising my kids like that! *Angry mother*

      patrick.saunders123 - 2012-09-12 14:18

make sure u tell the media as much as u know,

      diana.gill.18 - 2012-09-12 16:58

Doesnt make much sense as your driver was prepared to risk your kids' lives for a sake of petty revenge. Or you just trolling.

      mpummym - 2012-09-12 17:06

Petty revenge? What you on about? His mirror was knocked off, it's only ethical for the BMW driver to stop and exchange numbers, and then later take responsibility for his actions. I doubt you have kids.

      patsy.smith.125 - 2012-09-12 19:12

You DO that! These 'police' of ours are far to quick to point weapons at people. Especially when, by the sounds of it, the cop was at fault. It's an absolute disgrace! What kinds of rubbish get into uniforms today?

      diana.gill.18 - 2012-09-12 19:33

If someone values a car higher than children's lives then yes i step back. I am pretty sure you're a troll and have skipped on your army service.

      John - 2012-09-12 19:45

Now the TRUTH comes out! Watch how the pile of faeces Wayne Minnaar included attempt to cover this up! Go to IPID and put in a complaint! Sue the rubbish for damages!

  • aaron.radebe.1 - 2012-09-12 13:15

Doesn't add up. How did the motorist manage to get hold of the weapon? What was the provocation? And if it was such a clear cut case, why have no arrests been made?

  • buti.Bambo - 2012-09-12 13:39

There is a story behind this

  • michael.barns.1 - 2012-09-12 14:19

Point a firearm at me and I'll shoot you between the eyes, you shoot to kill not to mess around, if you are going to point a firearm you better understand the consequences of your actions.

      John - 2012-09-12 19:39

The only time the bullet recipient must know you have a firearm is when the bullet impacts!

      skinderbekkie.vanmosselbaai - 2012-09-13 08:17

This guy was unarmed, if the cops did not take out the weapon first how would be able to take it from a cop. I will hold the gun, you come get it and see if you can!

  • luk33 - 2012-09-12 14:33

Sounds dodgy and negligent! Why was the policewomen's fire arm in the motorists grabbing range. Clearly defending himself from two thugs. He is lucky to be alive.

      mike.bundy.73 - 2012-09-13 06:59

I have a hunch that she might have been pointing it at him when he grabbed it.

  • riotousr - 2012-09-12 15:30

He lived to tell a story. Bravo, simpleton, bravo.

  • kyle.buitendag - 2012-09-12 15:38

ja, but i bet you if the piece of crap cop was shot, he would be in prison now.....and i am willing to bet a months salary that the cop did not have hes seat belt on and the clown was at fault

  • sifiso.msimango - 2012-09-12 15:45

iam sure this grab a gun cowboy from a police officer is not black and is indeed idiot, he deserved more than what he got

      RudiErnst - 2012-09-12 22:59

Quiet there in the cheap seats! Muppet. Where is black and white relevant to this story of idiocy?

  • flysouth - 2012-09-12 15:58

The cover up is on! This story looks like the biggest load of rubbish known to man!

      John - 2012-09-12 19:33

Yeah, the thin blue line in operation! If I was pointing a firearm at this cop he would be charging me for his murder! What a bull faeces story!

  • ronnie.tippett.3 - 2012-09-12 16:03

The most worrying thing here for me is that it was apparently so easy for the man to grab the policewoman's gun! Surely "How to Protect Your Firearm 101" is on Day 1 of Police College?!?!

  • hengu.willemse - 2012-09-12 17:15

doesn't matter if the accident was the cop's fault or whatever the story behind the story is... it doesn't justify taking someone else's fire arm from them (even if it was easy)and pointing them (i.e threatening his life). I don't get why ppl blame the cops for being there, blame should be accounted to the person who initiates the wrong act, not the person who omitted to take preventative steps when under the circumstances it could not have been foreseen... (these cops were probably in shock after the collision) and yes cops do carry firearms off duty, most police killings happen when officers are ambushed on their way home from work.

      John - 2012-09-12 19:29

You must be a COP to support this fishy story!

      hengu.willemse - 2012-09-13 06:49

yes i am... last time i looked that wasn't an offence and it doesn't change the fact that your argument is flawed and void of logic.

  • leonardo.beekay - 2012-09-12 18:32

ipid pls investigate sometin is fishy here

  • John - 2012-09-12 21:37

More likely the THUG metro cop pulled out his gun along with his passenger. They are brilliant at fabricating stories!

They shoot innocent miners now innocent public,we are in Hell here

  • skinderbekkie.vanmosselbaai - 2012-09-13 08:10

  • Notrax123 - 2012-09-13 09:01

24yr old motorist was not in possession of a firearm. Metro Cop and his poliewoman girl friend were both armed. 24yr old takes policewomans firearm. South Afican law states that if you carry a firearm, it must be cocealed - not easy to grab a concealed weapon. I believe that the 24yr old was threatend with firearms by both cops and reacted.

  • wouldntit.benice.1 - 2012-09-13 09:34
