Johannesburg - A metro police officer died in the Tshepo-Themba Private Hospital in Dobsonville on Wednesday morning after he was shot during a hijacking in Jabulani, metro police said.

"The officer was shot four times and was robbed of his private car, and his service firearm was also taken," spokesperson Chief Supt Wayne Minnaar said.

Minnaar said the 24-year-old officer was off-duty and alone when the incident occurred on Tuesday night.

Goverment we as taxpayers pay yr saleries~ not so? ok? clamp the murderers and rapists ~bring back the death sentence!

      odirile.seemise - 2012-12-19 09:05

Government doesn't give a hoot about us, proved it yesterday by putting the same chaos back in power. We need to come together 2014 and put a government in that listens to its citizens, or worse to follow.

Wrong place at the Wrong time. R.I.P.

      andrew.selous - 2012-12-19 09:34

      janice.mcmaster.92 - 2012-12-19 09:41

Agree ulandi, however, wrong country - right time, unfortunately!

      ulandi.potgieter - 2012-12-19 09:53

it's just a pity he was a young man who passed away so soon but heart goes out to all those police officers who do put their lives out there for us.

      tjohnsonuk - 2012-12-19 11:48

Sorry ulandi, know what you're saying, but he didn't pass away. He was killed, murdered, robbed of his life. When someone passes away it is generally indicates it was health related. Still, such a shame RIP.

      ulandi.potgieter - 2012-12-19 12:07

@ tjohnsonuk - Thank you for the help there, I meant as well to say killed or murdered.

  • liezl.haramis.7 - 2012-12-19 08:59

Shame...he probably voted didnt...wheres the fairness in that...but God will eventually sort all of this out...x

      jj.jeno.1 - 2012-12-19 09:05

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-19 09:38

A man was murdered and that's all you can think of ?....big down....

      normarie.duplessis - 2012-12-19 09:43

Your comment is unbelievable! Did you know this person? No-one deserves to die! Political views and race is no reason to judge whether someone deserves death or not. No wonder we can't get past all this racial BS in our country...

      Erna - 2012-12-19 09:50

Liesl - rather keep your comments to yourself. You make the rest of us look bad!

      barnie.huysamer - 2012-12-19 09:56

      Ai Liezl...:-(

      ben.nevis.906 - 2012-12-19 10:28

Liezl, you should really, really think it over, before you press "enter"...Most of your comments are pretty thoughtless and not connected to the topic at all.

      andile.nokhetshe - 2012-12-19 11:48

@Erna do not worry because most of us we are aware of the fact that people like this one are a minority. #Peace

Jails are overstocked~ the streets r overun with criminals~ clean up~ bring back the death sentence!

  • seipati.mogorosi.7 - 2012-12-19 09:15

Its really sad. May his soul rest in peace

  • anakin.skyvader.9 - 2012-12-19 09:18

This is appaling and sad. Condolences to the family and relatives. These violent gangsters show no respect whatsoever for others. The govt must change the law and bring back the death sentence. What chance does ordinary citizens stand if they can do this to police members? We are sick & tired of crime - thanks to crime it's very difficult to relax a bit - instead we have to be constantly on guard, irrespective of the area one lives in: crime is everywhere and when your'e away for a short while they want to climb over your wall or hijack you in your driveway. So many people rather stay home during the Xmas to try and curb the "shopping" spree for criminals. Please SAPS just KILL these low-life thugs when you find them, don't arrest them.

  • bongani.nxumalo.1804 - 2012-12-19 09:21

With some of the comments here, one would bet that News24 is for retards. A person died and he probably voted for the "ANC"? What if he was a staunch DA member, or COPE, or PAC itchy fingers liezl.haramis.7?

  • ari.potah - 2012-12-19 09:24

I am finally convinced that the greater majority of commentators on any News24 article are total morons and fixated on politics - the domain of the brain-dead. WTF has the terribly sad murder of Metro policeman got to do with the ANC? The jerks that make a political issue out of everything really ought to get a life - and until they do, may I sincerely ask that they refrain from posting?

      andile.nokhetshe - 2012-12-19 09:31

Sad part is that they take to any article.

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-19 09:32

With you on this one dude...well said...

      matthews.magodiela - 2012-12-19 09:43

I agree with you Chief. This is crime related incident that can happen to anyone and has nothing to do with ANC. Police must just do their work and bring these criminals to book. No one deserve to die for what he has worked for.

      johnny.better.12 - 2012-12-19 09:53

Cant agree more. I feel sorry for the copper and his family. Shame man ...

  • tshepokealogile - 2012-12-19 09:29

They knew he was a cop and possibly armed

      johnny.better.12 - 2012-12-19 09:54

I also had a thought like that. Another sad day..

  • bheki.moyo.39 - 2012-12-19 09:32

Unruly behavior is on the rise in this country ,I wish and hope the government is aware of that fact. I think its high time the law or the clause that abolished the death penalty has to reviewed. How do we sympathise with those that cut short other people's life? Where is that brotherely love? Parliamentarians this is one of the issues you should be debating about in parliament and make sure the nation is protected from these ruthless criminals. Rise Sa rise.

  • jacques.swanepoel.372 - 2012-12-19 09:55

RIP, unfortunately just another statisic. When will the government realise we need law and order in this country. They need to clean from the top down first.

  • matthews.magodiela - 2012-12-19 10:04

A decision to end death sentence was taken based on emotional symphathy and feelings for political activists who were killed by apartheid government for our freedom. but it has now opened a loophole for criminals who simply kill people in a Barberic way for pety things. These are the people who deserve death penalty. If we have confidant and trust in our justice system death sentence can be implemented successfully with real culprits who commit these barberic crime convicted and sentenced to death.

  • MrTshis - 2012-12-19 10:36

i hate white people who associate everything with the anc or with every African person. When Lee Mathews was killed by Donovan Moodley, with which party did you associate the crime. How many people are being killed and illtreated in the farms by white racists farmers. @Liezl, and @Stefan erasmas you are racisits. cold blooded racisits. Sometimes i dont even blame Mugabe for driving whites out of Zimbabwe, its becos of people like u that even innocent people, whites, suffer hatred. You bloody racists. Everything, ANC, ANC. Yes ANC, you were happy during the aparthied times when u use to illtreat our fathers and mothers. Y r u so full of hatred, bastards

      ulandi.potgieter - 2012-12-19 12:38

You to be honest there are to many people that are still living in the passed and some are trying to move on. You know this Sunday that just passed I had a white guy that walked passed me at the Durban Beach Front and say to me that Durban will never be the same again just because the beach was full of blacks and my mom and I with my 2yr old daughter were the only whites between all the blacks but what got me was my daughter and all the black children were getting along where are the days that we didn't see colour we got along. P.S. sorry if it sounds like I was moaning I wasn't Lol.

      John - 2012-12-19 22:47

YOU will see a racist in your mirror!

      ulandi.potgieter - 2012-12-20 14:55

@ John - who will see racist in the mirror?

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:22

What a shame. May he rest in peace and those responsible be caught soon.

  • donovan.gerber - 2012-12-19 14:30

They will catch him and 6 months later he will be out of jail. Life in SA!

  • gordontumelo.tsotetsi - 2012-12-19 21:53

I am still shocked , I knw this young officer, a good loving somebody, there hs to be a motive , but saps and jmpd will not rest up until those ppl are arrested ,may your soul rest in peace, but colleagues will not rest until justice done

  • annie.israel.50 - 2012-12-20 13:46

How many people have to die - SA is a LAWLESS COUNTRY - a person cannot even drive in the middle of Johannesburg without being murdered in broad daylight - i believe the DEATH SENTENCE SHOULD BE BROUGHT BACK
