Johannesburg - Railway services in Gauteng have been restored after cables were vandalised earlier this week, Metrorail said on Thursday.

"I would like to assure customers that the service is back to normal. Thanks to our technical team for working tirelessly in restoring the train service for the morning peak," Metrorail acting provincial manager Mzolisi Madikane said.

"It is regrettable that a lot of production hours were lost yesterday [Wednesday] due to sabotage. We sincerely appreciate our customers for their patience and thank them for their understanding and support," he said.

Several cables were vandalised on Tuesday, affecting points and signalling equipment. As a result train services in Gauteng were disrupted.

Madikane said the technical team worked throughout Wednesday night to replace all the burnt cables.

Funny how they say "vandalised" when the bastards steal cables, but when 6 white guys have knobkieries and knives, they are terrorists with bombs. Tut tut. The true face of news 24 is showing itself again.
