Johannesburg - The body of a man found on a beach in Finland this week is believed to be that of a South African man who went missing last week.

Netwerk24 reported on Thursday that Herc Croeser, 60, travelled to Helsinki nearly two weeks ago to attend a conference. He was a manager at Metso Minerals and was based in Boksburg.

He was meant to arrive home last Saturday, but never boarded his flight in Finland.

Police found all his belongings, including his passport and money, in his hotel room.

According to the hotel, he left to dine at a nearby pub with colleagues last Thursday. CCTV showed him leaving the pub at 22:00. He was last on WhatsApp at 23:00.

His family tried to contact him the following morning and he did not respond.

A media release by Metso Minerals stated that his body had been found in the water.

A local news report stated that he is believed to have stood on the rocks on the beach to admire the waves when he fell in and drowned in the cold water. No foul play is suspected.
