Missionaries heartbroken after son dies

2012-10-03 10:03

Pretoria - The missionary parents of a little boy who were holding out hope for a miracle after he was seriously injured in a bakkie accident were left heartbroken on Wednesday when he died.

Doctors put Renier le Roux, 3, on life support machines, reported Beeld.

The boy’s parents, Jaco and Inge le Roux, were doing missionary work in Mozambique when Renier fell from a bakkie and hit his head.

They rushed the little boy to South Africa and he spent the week in high care at the Garden City hospital in Johannesburg.

“Jaco said they were not going to switch off the machines, they are still hoping for a miracle,” said aunt Lonice Wessels.

But on Wednesday morning, a message was posted on a Facebook page stating that Le Roux was now "with the Lord Jesus Christ".

The toddler had minimal brain activity and apparently still had too much pressure on the brain despite two operations.

So sorry, little one. Thoughts and prayers are with the parents and family.

logical007: if you followed the story, you would have known that there were rails on the back of the bakkie. In any event your criticism is not called for at this point, the parents I'm sure are feeling bad enough as it is. My sincerest condolences to the family. RIP Renier.

      corne.hubinger - 2012-10-03 10:55

I disagree Charles. Rails don't mean nothing. There isn't supposed to be anybody on the back of a bakkie, especially a child. But most parents don't think. I see it daily where people don't strap in their children in their cars. I guess you'll say after one dies there as well, as I've seen more than one accident like that, that it's not the parents fault as well...

      logical007 - 2012-10-03 11:41

Railings?? so what!!! Kid should be strapped inside vehicle. No-one should be allowed on the back of open vehicle!

  • erneyb - 2012-10-03 10:38

Very sad. Don't know what the circumstances were, but children should not be allowed on the back of a bakkie without adult supervision.

Were are those people crying about the booster seats the other day? Say something. This is truly heartbreaking.

    charge the parents

      amanda.roos.319 - 2012-10-03 12:17

How can you charge the parents ? What about that other man that shot his daughter earlier this year when he thought she was an intruder. He was never charged for anything. Accidents happen. Accept that you cannot change God`s will when your child or anybody dies.

      bob.slap.5 - 2012-10-03 14:35

what utter rubbish, if he was negligent they WOULD have charged him as ALL non natural deaths are investigated. The little boys death was negligence on the part of the parents, SIMPLE

  • Shirley Van Heerden - 2012-10-03 10:50

An innocent 3 year old died because of adult stupidity!!! Kids should not be unrestraint in a vehicle - not to mention an open bakkie. Very sad - they lost a son and have to live with the knowledge they had a part in it. RIP little boy. No more pain. Safe with Jesus.

      jeeves.eddings - 2012-10-03 12:15

Shirley. I think the parents feel bad enough without your arrogant wisdom.

  • PrettyUsefulArt - 2012-10-03 10:54

What an awful decision for any parent to have to make. Siestog man.

  • mantothieve.missingman - 2012-10-03 11:01

Strongs to the family , RIP young man

  • greg.martino.33 - 2012-10-03 11:01

Father have mercy on the friends and parents and young Renier for their loss during this time of mourning. though we know not why he was taken so young, or just how much his short little life may have influenced those around him. It is your will and not our own. He is with you now Lord and therefore does not need our prayers, but it is th ones that are left behind that will suffer.

It is always a tragedy when a parent has to bury his child.

  • KevvyW - 2012-10-03 11:08

I think it's any parent's nightmare to loose a child - My condolences to the family. I cannot imagine what it might be like. All I can say is, hold on to the love and grace of a loving father. For He will bring you through..

REST IN PEACE YOUNG BOY....My sincere condolence to the family

  • chilli.stephenson1 - 2012-10-03 11:37

This boy looks just like my little 3 year old. Seriously. This picture makes me so sad! Cause i had a vision of a boy that looked like my son dying. I thought it was my son! So sorry to hear about your loss. He is safe with Jesus. Thank you Father and may you give your peace to his mom and dad and give them the ability to get through this. Your ways are not our ways Father, and You know best. God bless you family!

  • logical007 - 2012-10-03 11:44

@ Squueegee Lived on a plot all my life... Would still never have children on open bakie..... Kid dies and then we cry. This 'accident' could have been prevented only if kid was strapped in vehicle???? To late! @ ARM YES it does matter its like driving an unroadworthy car, or driving drunk - only once - It only takes one time and then its to late be over cautious than sorry! My comment is not to critisize but seriously stop putting people and kids at risk by putting them in an open bakkie and driving. It does not matter if its on rural or higways.

  • Mike Peach - 2012-10-03 11:56

    So sad.

  • emilyjane.elson - 2012-10-03 13:49

Sorry Little Man.. I'm sure your Mom & Dad are DEVASTATED, nevermind the guilt for not strapping you in.. I hope this does not destroy them, as accidents, terrible ones, do happen and living with "What if" is not going to be easy.. I hope they eventually find peace through all the chaos..
