Johannesburg - Model South Africa founder and owner Dawie De Villiers defrauded eight victims into giving him more than R290 000, the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge heard on Monday.

De Villiers is facing 38 counts of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, crimen injuria, intimidation, sexual grooming, exposure to pornographic material, possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and fraud.

On Monday afternoon, day one of his trial, the formally dressed Kempton Park businessman pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The ages of his alleged victims linked to his sexual offences range from 7 to 21.

According to prosecutor Arveena Persad, De Villiers defrauded Dominique Rensleigh of R200 000 in 2009. He had allegedly entered into a partnership with her and subsequently stole the cash, the court heard.

Rene Viljoen was allegedly defrauded of R48 000 in February 2011 when De Villiers pretended he would pay her R2 500 a month in exchange for the R50 000 she had paid him for shares in his company. Persad said De Villiers still owed Viljoen some R48 000.

De Villiers also allegedly defrauded another six clients out of R42 650 by falsely telling them they were paying either for photographs, modelling lessons, calendars, work or an event De Villers would host.

The trial was expected to continue on Wednesday with all but one of the sexual offences victims appearing in-camera.
