Mom, 4 children burn to death in house fire

2011-07-13 07:20

Johannesburg - A family of five, including four children died after a fire ripped through a house in Ormonde on Wednesday morning, Johannesburg Emergency Services said.

"They were all found dead in the kitchen of the two bedroom house," spokesperson Synock Matobako said.

"Indications are that the children and their 31-year-old mother were trying to escape when they were engulfed by flames in the kitchen."

The children were aged two, three, four and a six-months old.

"They were two girls, and two boys."

Family members gathered outside the house shortly after the fire was doused.

"They are hysterical after we told them what happened," Matobako said.

The roof of the house had also collapsed in the blaze, but the walls were still standing, he said.

Emergency services were alerted after neighbours noticed the blaze.

"The fire may have started in one of the bedrooms, but we are still investigating the cause."

Oh God why did you allow this? Eish very painful. Great condolences to the family. Eish.

      paulf - 2011-07-13 07:26

So sad, condolences the the family RIP.

      Michelle - 2011-07-13 08:18

Don't blame God for such tragedies!! He never wants to see His children hurt. Remember there's an enemy who loves causing pain and heartache. Condolences to the family.

      Mdavu-zn - 2011-07-13 12:27

If HE (according to the bible) knows everything before its occurence he wouldn't have allowed this to happen Michelle so don't get my point wrong ne. This one is too hard to face. We all know he promised not to give us loads that are more than our power. Just thing about how the family of these peopl is feeling when is hard for me siting here. Trully sad.

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:37

God has inherent liabbility, just as the SA government has an inherent liability for road accidents because they built the road...I wonder who god's lawyer is

      Travie - 2011-07-13 12:47

you are all thinking too hard. Everything that happens is consequences of choices. If you choose to drink and drive and you crash and kill your wife then you going to say WHY GOD!! no no. Dont even bring God into the situation. Be wise!

      Mdavu-zn - 2011-07-13 13:25

Travie---> What if you drink and drive then you hit me by your car far from the road? Was that my choice that you hit me by the car? Even maybe the mother of these childern contributed in this, but the chidren haven't. Hope you get me well.

      TurboChris - 2011-07-13 14:36

My condolences to the family, felt very sad that this has happened. @Mdavu-zn- I think you put this comment to get people to reply to you. Just to clear up, it's called free will, we all have it, if it is a drunk drivers will to drink and drive he will do it, if he drives into you it's not your free will but his and his choice that will injure you, we can't understand the mind of God, we only have human capacity, so there will be more questions than answers, but If you ever feel like a voice is telling you do do something or drive a different route, or not to walk down a side street, not to steal something etc. it could be the Holy spirit prompting you, God will never interfere with free will, but he could be prompting you or others to phone you when a kind word is needed, stop to help someone in need, help a grieving family. It's also our choice(will) to adhere to these promptings or to ignore them

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 15:05

According to Christian folk, your sky-daddy is responsible for everything and is onmipotently present throughout space and time, don't say you can't bring god iin to this, by implication, he is not only part of any situation, he is any situation, stop being selective wewith your theology, nxxn

      PC1 - 2011-07-13 15:31

The answer is simple - There is no God!

      Travie - 2011-07-13 15:38

@mdavu, yeah I understand what you saying things happen to people that are out of turn for example jub jub kids. Although 90% of the time it is from consequences, some times we just got to realise we living in a real world and of course Sh!t happens

      Barry - 2011-07-13 17:29

@ PC1 The fool says in His heart there is no God. Condolences to the family and friends

      Michelle - 2011-07-13 22:41

No, no Mdavu-zn, that's where you're wrong. You obviously haven't read your Bible thoroughly; God has promised us free will, a promise which He will not break. Going against this breaks His promise. How dare WE question HIS understanding, as HIS thoughts are HIGHER than ours. Lest we forget that satan is the ruler of this world, and we are constantly in spiritual warfare, whether you believe it or not. Now, enough with the religious slander and unnecessary debate, let's rather focus on supporting the family who are overcome with grief. May God help them through this terrible time. I know these precious children are safe in Heaven.

  • Mishka - 2011-07-13 07:30

Sincere condolences to those left behind. What an awful, awful way to go.

  • chi chi - 2011-07-13 07:58

so sad, i fell like to cry

  • Smaal - 2011-07-13 08:01

Yes, a bad thing. When buying a house, the fort Knox upgrades to protect you and your family from the normal South Africa outside is literally a death trap in situations like this. RIP.

      myoomsemotor - 2011-07-13 12:06

always have to bring that aspect into everything, get a life please....

      Mike - 2011-07-13 12:36

@myoomsemotor - what aspect of his post are you refering to? Why don't you get a life and catch a wake up. He is merely stating a fact that we SA citizens have to live in a prison - unlike many other countries in the world were there would of been no problem excaping the fire. So, tell me, what aspect are you refering to???? Moron.

      Collitjies - 2011-07-13 13:34

Here I agree we all live in a Fort Knox type residence because we need to protect our families and possessions so when a fire breaks out you have very little time to escape unless you the ability to extinguish the fire.

      sowa-asparramaneldra - 2011-07-13 15:20

@myoomsemotor, I don't think by stating the mere facts, that we have to lock ourselfves in houses that looks like Fort Knox, is a discredit to our country. I think the people that are causing us to do this is dicrediting our country!

      Travie - 2011-07-13 15:43

@myoomsemotor. Respect earns respect. You can't just run around swearing people how you please. unbelievable. Our country is in trouble and thats a fact not an assumption. The reason why is because of people like you who think you can do what you like rob who you like swear who you like. Hence living in fort knox(to hide from you!)

      myoomsemotor - 2011-07-13 16:38

Travie mike touched me on my studio.....

      Barry - 2011-07-13 17:31

@ myoomsemotor You sound like a pathetic welder trying to sell His pathetic wares.!

      myoomsemotor - 2011-07-14 09:11

Barry you not making sense at all, please try again....

      Mike - 2011-07-13 12:39

There is no mention of a father in the article - maybe you know something the rest of us don't??? If you do know of his whereabouts then please inform us!

      Mike - 2011-07-13 12:41

Pray tell, where is there a mention of a father - he may be dead! Who knows? Are you using your power of assumption or do you know about the where-abouts of the father?

  • lollie sue - 2011-07-13 08:32

Terrible. I wonder what caused the fire. Hope no one is responsible for such a terrible thing.

      Singo - 2011-07-13 17:21

Thats sad indeed.Forgive me people, if the fire may have started in one of the bedroom, why did they all die in the kitchen really?I do not get it here, surely there is an exit door through the kitchen, buit it seemed like the door was locked from the outside. Only God Knows.

  • Wit vrou - 2011-07-13 08:42

May God be with you all the way. Condolences to the family and friends left behind.

  • sunny - 2011-07-13 08:56

      Mike - 2011-07-13 12:46

Where is there a mention of a living father in the article?

      Hafez - 2011-07-13 13:47

I Dont know the family personally, but I do know someone that does know the family, & YES, there is a father. However, I do not know where he is or where he was @ the time of the fire... May God grant him the patience to bear this tragic loss of his family & may those who lost their lives rest in peace!

      Fastbowler - 2011-07-13 13:54

Mike - it may not be in the article - but the father has been mentioned in radio news bulletins and on other sites. Don't use your ignorance to appear clever - it doesn't work.

      Singo - 2011-07-13 17:18

It may b that father who locked them inside and burned the house down sothat he wont pay maintenance, or a jalous lover, huh?most fires start like this.Though we may not know the truth behind this tradegy, may their souls be blessed.

  • litembaleeds.ntseke - 2011-07-13 09:05

Tragic indeed, may their dear souls rest in peace, condolences to the father(only if it later doesn't turn out, he was up to this), the family and friends of the bereaved.

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:48

It wouldn't surprise me in the age we're living in, men seem to regularly take out their own families.

  • Portia - 2011-07-13 09:18

    Were was the father???

      LBS - 2011-07-13 15:00

  • Papsak - 2011-07-13 12:15

@Biko Lives, your comments are so irrelevant in this regard. This is an accident that could have happened to anyone anywhere including Sandton or Bishopscourt. From what I heard since the story broke at 5 this morning, it looks like the cause of fire was an electric heater in the kiddies room. Don't be a disgrace to the BC philosophy please. I pray to God to give the husband and father the strength to recover from this very tragic situation. Nothing like this should ever happen to anyone.

  • mary999 - 2011-07-13 13:10

The father is critical in hospital.. prayers requested for his speedy recovery and the strength to get through this.

      Jada Berry - 2011-07-14 13:04

  • Caucasian - 2011-07-13 13:26

I know God would not have let the children suffer as they passed on,today they are in heaven and I pray the father will one day join them, its up to him now.

  • Linda - 2011-07-13 14:02

    heart wrenching!

  • Jason - 2011-07-13 14:21,but we do need to keep watch over those parafin heaters as means of drying wet clothing

Oh Lord poor helpless souls - may their souls rest in peace. Condolences to the family.

  • Pink Panther - 2011-07-13 15:47

the father is critical in hospital....fighting for his life, so lets not judge, God is the only judge. our lives in this world is a journey, some will leave it early and some late, but we will all go, our time to go is already written for us. i pray that God grants us all to enter heaven, these kids died tragically, but i know theyl be smiling in heaven

      Jada Berry - 2011-07-14 12:59

  • Natascha Vogelaar - 2011-07-13 17:19
