Mom: How can I kidnap my own child?

2011-11-30 14:18

Cape Town - Ten-year-old McKayla Raynard is still missing but the little girl’s mother claims that she did not kidnap her from her school in Durban.

Calene Bianca Rutgers said in a Facebook post on Tuesday night: “How can a mother kidnap her own child?”

Police have now opened a missing person’s case for Raynard.

Rutgers has been accused of being a drug addict and a prostitute by Raynard’s grandmother who has looked after McKayla for the last three years and has temporary custody of the child.

Siobhon Raynard, McKayla’s aunt, told News24 that her family hadn’t heard from Rutgers for the last nine months but feared that she would show up to try and take her daughter back.

Their fears were heightened on Tuesday because it was McKayla’s birthday.

They are also looking after Rutgers 6-year-old son. She also has a 1-year-old child that is living in a children’s home in Durban.

McKayla is between 1.4-1.5m tall, has long black hair, dark brown eyes and is described as “a coloured girl who looks more Indian”.

She was last seen wearing a maroon T-shirt with her school logo on it and a pair of black shorts.

Rutgers is a coloured woman who is a size 30-32, has shoulder length black hair, a piercing in her chin and dark brown eyes. She is said to be between 1.5-1.7m tall. She was last seen wearing a red dress.

McKayla was snatched from her school, Seaview primary, in a silver Opel Corsa with a registration number NRB-62310. The plate is registered to a Toyota Hilux.

Both vehicles are said to belong to an “A Atuhaire” who has a property in Shrimptail Road in Richard’s Bay.

A Facebook page has also been created.

If you are not the legal custodian, then taking / removing a child without consent from the guardian is kidnapping.

      Bloed - 2011-11-30 15:56

ja and taking bribes is a crime but do you see anyone in this country that care?

      Go - 2011-11-30 17:48

bloed - what the hell has that got to do with with this article ?? A little girl is missing and all you want to comment is that !!!!Obviously you do not have children of your own

      TJ - 2011-12-01 10:12

I have a foster son who has been with me now for half his life time. He was taken from his 'incubator' because of abuse and neglect. When she started stalking him outside his school the Social Workers and the School threatened her with legal action and arrest. Taking a child from legal custody, even if it is your own child, is kidnapping. You loose custody for a reason. It is normally to protect the child and to prevent any further physical, emotional, psychological, etc damage to the child!! Love them, don't hurt them. If you can't take care of your child in the way they deserve to be cared for, rather let someone else take care of the child.

  • Karabo - 2011-11-30 14:34

I trust God and pray for the child's safe return.

      VOVO247 - 2011-11-30 15:29

Thats the problem, waiting for God to do something bout it... If this world is anything to go by, God has forsaken us ages ago & we need to stand up for ourselves & our communities... There may have been a God at some stage, but yeah, right now, I really doubt it.

      Alan - 2011-11-30 15:30

What a silly comment. Why would you trust a god that let this happen in the first place?

      Go - 2011-11-30 17:49

Alan and Vovo - go find somewhere else to view your pointless posts please!!

      Yaseen - 2011-12-01 08:53

God is everywhere, look around you. Look at his majesty, can man hold a sky with no pillars? Look at the ocean, waterfalls, trees... can man even create just 1 leave of a tree? God is Beautiful, God is looking after you and me :)

      Go - 2011-12-01 10:35

@Alan, very mature comment - Grow up and maybe others will pay more attention to you

      Graham - 2011-12-01 12:12

Alan is just pissed cause Jesus definately didn't grace him with good looks.

Shame poor girl, hope she's not a pawn in some crap her mother got involved with, and that the drug dealers aren't using her to get her mom to repay some drug debt.

  • JohnnyBGood - 2011-11-30 14:44

The police need to find her quick. This can turn ugly very quickly.

  • wnkambule - 2011-11-30 14:44

What about taking “A Atuhaire” for questioning since the cars belongs to them???

      K0BUSL - 2011-11-30 15:03

becahey, this shouldn't be a surprise for him, I mean after last years issues regarding medical aid fraud..... probably found providing unscripted dispensing was easier

      wnkambule - 2011-12-01 09:21

@Go: Read correctly! at the last two paragraphs..

  • Hannelie - 2011-11-30 14:46

how did this child go missing from inside her classroom without someone seeing anything? Seems the school is just as much too blame as any other party involved.

      Pierre - 2011-11-30 14:58

The mother convinced the teacher to give her the child, i also suspect the school provided the registration number of the vehicle.

      Annie - 2011-12-01 12:59

I totally agree! How can they phone the grandmother after she was taken to report that "someone" had taken the child from school???? Isn't there a ruling against who is liable to pick your child up from school? Especially in cases such as this! Something very fishy about this whole story. And knowing her mother is a threat, the only medium of communication they have is Facebook?

  • Anthony - 2011-11-30 14:49

So nobody knows were the child is. am I missing something, ffs poor child look for her!!!!!

      VOVO247 - 2011-11-30 15:31

Right behind you cuz.. where do we start kind sir?

  • Barefoot - 2011-11-30 14:51

So nobody saw her napping the kid, so it's just speculation cause she probably wanted to take her? this is what 'm getting here

  • Lana-May - 2011-11-30 14:57

People like should not be allowed to have kids! Makes me sick!

      Riëtte - 2011-11-30 15:06

Exactly, her children has been staying with other people for almost 3 years now, and she still had another child!!

  • Heather - 2011-11-30 15:02

I am so sick of these drug addict mothers! Do they know what they are doing to there children? They are selfish, selfish individuals.

      Cara - 2011-11-30 15:55

I agree.. they should be sterilised. She has a 1 year old in a home. My heart literally breaks.

  • Deon - 2011-11-30 15:35

Yes you can when you don't have custody.

  • Winsome - 2011-11-30 16:19

She has 3 children and not one of them live with her - the youngest of a year old lives in a children's home. There must be something in the allegations of the grandmother then - perhaps she is a drug addict and prostitute - cant see a healthy mother just giving her children away like that.

  • Chans - 2011-12-01 09:44

Find the mum, you find the kid! The mum obviously have access to the internet cause she is updating her fb status, so my message to her is do what is right for you daughter. If you are and addict and prostitute a kid is not meant to be in such a dangerous and unstable environment. Be the mum and do what is right for your kid and don't try to pawn your kid for your mistakes in life.

  • Michel - 2011-12-01 10:02

Legal custodian or not No parent have legal right to withhold the child from his other parent. This is a international law and both parents should always be aware of where the child is situated and will always have the rights of seing the child

  • lovellt - 2011-12-01 10:20

people should apply for permits before they are allowed to have children.

      des.maartens - 2011-12-02 22:19

      right on Kiddo

  • antheawerrett - 2011-12-01 12:01

@Alan, your comments are offensive and disgusting. this is a child. A child who didn't ask to be born to a drug addicted mother into a cruel world such as ours. And with people like you making such horrid comments, i hope like hell no kid is ever exposed to your revolting opinions. Child or adult for that matter. You make me sick. Its people like you who should certainly be neutered. I hope little McKayla is found soon. My heart goes out to her family.

  • antheawerrett - 2011-12-01 12:28

Is there anymore news on this little girl? I see on facebook the mother says something about going back to Cape town.... i wonder if she hasn't gone there? The poor child.... i really hope she isn't damaged more by her incompetent mother!

  • kim.moffatt1 - 2012-10-15 07:47
