Johannesburg - A 29-year-old was arrested on Sunday for doing 111km/h in a 80km/h zone on the N17 in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

"... [The driver] chose to disregard the speed limit [rather] than to have his mother-in-law being late for her meeting," Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said.

Five other speedsters were arrested on the N17 on Sunday morning doing speeds ranging from 121km/h to 128km/h.

Kgasago said six people were arrested for speeding on Saturday, and a motorcyclist was arrested for having fake number plates. Five people were arrested on Friday.

All those arrested were granted bail and were expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court soon on charges of reckless or negligent driving.
