Cape Town - A Strand mother who clung to life after she was gunned down by her detective boyfriend in a murder suicide two weeks ago, has died.

Zaheda Peters, 32, had been shot in the head and arm.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said she had died in hospital on Friday as a result of her wounds.

“This office can confirm that the victim succumbed on Friday night in hospital and that the charge on the case docket has been changed to murder. IPID is responsible for the investigation thereof,” he said.

Warrant Officer Nevell du Toit, 44, shot her at her home in Dolphin Street in Strand two weeks ago. He died after turning the gun on himself.

Peters apparently ran outside after she was shot, desperately calling for help while the policeman chased after her.

He then shot her in the head before shooting and killing himself.

Du Toit was stationed in the detective unit at Macassar police station.
