Cape Town - A further two furniture removal companies are set to be referred to Competition Tribunal for price fixing and collusive bidding for tenders.

The announcement in a statement on Friday follows one from last week that the three companies were being referred to the tribunal.

Core Relocations (Pty) Ltd and Mini Max Movers CC are the latest companies to be referred to the tribunal.

The Commission said that it had found that Core Relocations (Pty) Ltd had colluded with Cape Express, JH Retief, Pro Pack and Sifikile in respect of tenders.

Mini Max was found to have colluded with JH Retief in respect of one tender.

The referrals to the tribunal follow an investigation by the Competition Commission that was launched between 2010 and 2011 against 69 furniture removal companies for colluding on furniture removal tenders issued by various government departments and private sector clients.

According to the commission the collusion appears to have started from around 2007 to at least 2014.

The commission wants the tribunal to order both Core Relocations and Mini Max to pay an administrative penalty that will equal 10% of their annual turnover for each instance of collusion in tenders.

The commission has already settled with 15 companies, including Cape Express, JH Retief and Pro Pack.
