Johannesburg - More power outages are expected this weekend in certain areas of Alberton, the Ekurhuleni municipality said on Friday.

"[We] will this weekend continue with planned power supply interruptions in certain suburbs of Alberton as it finalises the work to revamp the Truida Road substation," spokesperson Sam Modiba said.

There would be no power from 20:00 on Sunday until 17:00 on Monday.

Affected areas included the Alberton CBD, Alberton North, Verwoerd Park, Florentia, New Redruth, and South Crest.

Modiba said the work being done this weekend was the final stage of the project.

A total of R5m had been put aside to fix technical problems.

"It is expected that the completion of the project will lead to a stabilised service to affected consumers."
