Johannesburg - More rain is expected in Gauteng over the weekend, the SA Weather Service said on Friday.

The rain would be severe in some parts, although it was difficult to say in which areas.

Hail storm

A hail storm in parts of the province on Thursday evening caused extensive damage. Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said roofs were blown off in several informal settlements. Twenty people were treated for minor injuries.

Some areas in Pretoria were left without power when the storm affected the Wolmer substation, City of Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba said.

Bokaba said power was expected to be restored within three days. The affected areas were Theresa Park, Tileba, Wolmer, and Klerksoord.

Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said a number of houses in Dobsonville, Bramfischerville, Emdeni and Kliptown in Soweto were flooded. Roofs were blown off and windows broken.

No deaths or injuries were reported.
