More wet, cold weather expected

2012-09-07 11:13

Johannesburg - More rainfall and cold weather were expected in parts of the country on Friday, the SA Weather Service said.

Spokesperson Kenosi Machepa said heavy rainfalls were expected in places over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga as well as the central parts of Limpopo on Friday.

"Temperatures will still be cool to warm over most parts of the country, but otherwise cold over Gauteng and Mpumalanga."

Machepa said the wet weather was expected to clear completely by Saturday morning in the eastern parts of the country and temperatures were expected to start warming up from Saturday.

"A weak cold front is approaching from the west and will result in isolated showers and rain in the south western parts of the country by Sunday."

Two cars were swept off a small flooded bridge on Valley Drive near Waterfall in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the drivers of the two vehicles were found safely on the side of the road while their cars were in the river.

"They were unharmed and just wet and cold. They would go and see their own doctor if they needed further medical assistance."
Banks advised motorists not to drive through flooded areas.

"If you see a flooded road ahead, turn around and find an alternative route to get to your destination."

  • customdesign - 2012-09-07 14:41

"If you see a flooded road ahead, turn around and find an alternative route to get to your destination." This should be logical, but I don't put it past some South Africans needing to be told this.

you will be surprised as to how many people are so damn ignorant, they will see that the raod is flooded, and think to themselves, its ok to cross & then BAMN whoooosh goes their car down the river, and they wonder WHY!
