Motata has yet to pay for wall damage

2012-02-28 11:00

Johannesburg - Judge Nkola Motata has still not paid damages to a businessman whose wall he crashed into in 2007, according to a report on Tuesday.

Richard Baird told The Times newspaper that the damage to the wall amounted to R10 000. His legal fees relating to the 2007 crash totalled R50 000.

Motata said during his drunken driving court case that he was willing to pay for the damage caused to the wall.

He has since made a court appeal to stop Justice Minister Jeff Radebe from appointing a judicial conduct tribunal to investigate him.

Motata, who was found guilty of drunken driving in 2009, wants the court to find that an investigation into his conduct relating to the accident unconstitutional and unlawful.

The Times newspaper reported that Motata's attorney Simeon Ngomane could not be reached for comment.

      nkulu.bgumede - 2012-02-28 11:43

is this one meant to wake him up?

      StarStruck - 2012-02-28 11:58

His argument would be that Johnny Walker blue label made him fell all fuzzy when he drove and this caused him to fall asleep behind the wheel and crash. They must pay for the wall. What a complete joke.

Clearly the Bells is part of a colonialist plot!

  • gregory.f.dean - 2012-02-28 11:16

Clearly, then, his word is worth nothing!

      Chrono - 2012-02-28 11:33

Looks like we don't have an honourable person in Motata. How on earth can he be trusted in his job?

  • Cast53 - 2012-02-28 11:23

As a judge he got no respect for the law, shocking

  • Jacqui - 2012-02-28 11:26

How is he going to pay his booze?. No he can't pay for the wall, after all he is one of the chosen few isn't he?.

  • Angus - 2012-02-28 11:28

A judge cannot even keep his word or obey the law. Obviously has no integrity and should never have been in the legal profession to start with. Just another scumbag liar! Probably on full pay and benefits ANC style... Poor, poor Africa. The lost continent for so many reasons.

      Arthur - 2012-02-28 14:33

@ Angus , this could be again onsided story. He stated that he was willing to fixed it. did the court as part of its judgement order him to fixed the wall?. Why doesnt this Baird guy just not file a civil suit????

  • Angus - 2012-02-28 11:29

And this dude's job was to find other people guilty and sentence them according to their crimes, yet he is also a common criminal.

  • nkulu.bgumede - 2012-02-28 11:42

how about they throw the bricks at him and see if thats gonna change his mind

  • Snoopy.zn - 2012-02-28 11:43

Why the hell is he still employed. He should have been fired! Pay the freaking damages you Ape! You were found guilty!

  • Mark - 2012-02-28 11:45

Judge Motata has proved that he should never have been made a judge in the first place. He has also highlighted the poor judgement of those who elected him. Unfortunately the same goes for John Hlope.

  • Irene - 2012-02-28 12:16

What a pig! What kind of integrity does he have to not even pay for the damage to the guys' wall? Disgraceful!

  • Gavin - 2012-02-28 12:22

Welcome to the new and improved SA - where you quite literally, can get away with murder.

  • Wt - 2012-02-28 12:27

Sorry problem what seems to be the officer?!? slurrrr

  • Mark - 2012-02-28 13:37

As an ordinary SA citizen, Judge Motata would have had the book thrown at him and he would have been in jail pondering his disgrace in the eyes of society. Instead our "Comrade" Judge uses all possible means and influence to stay out of detention and feels agrieved that he is not above the law. It is not surprising, therefore, that this attitude is displayed in the non-payment of the wall he flattened in his drunken stupor.

  • ryanlevin - 2012-02-28 14:19

Don't you get a criminal record for drinking and driving? Why can this tool get off so lightly?

  • Heiku - 2012-02-28 14:28

A colleague of mine who earns 6k a month paid for a wall he drove into within a week. It was 12k in total. These scumbag fatcats are a disgrace to themselves and their country.

  • Den - 2012-02-28 17:06

    hard not to stereotype them

  • Sylvia - 2012-02-28 18:29

He is a disgrace to his profession. I'm sick of hearing about his whining and whinging. Why can't he just pay up and shut up?
