Motaung gets R50 000 bail

2012-08-16 14:04

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung was granted bail of R50 000 by the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Thursday, SABC radio news reported.

His co-accused Herbert Theledi was also granted bail of R50 000. The two face charges of forgery and fraud relating to the building of the Mbombela stadium, in Mpumalanga.

The case was postponed to October 15, according to a comment posted on Twitter by Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela.

More than 100 people protested outside the court on Thursday, holding up posters reading: "Who killed Jimmy", "What happened to Jimmy" and "Stop Corruption".

Mbombela municipality speaker Jimmy Mohlala was shot dead in January 2009 after blowing the whistle on companies and individuals he claimed were involved in tender corruption.

Some protesters wore T-shirts bearing his image, while others wore African National Congress and SA Communist Party T-shirts.

Police arrested two men, one in Naturena, Johannesburg, and another in Cape Town, on Wednesday. A third man later handed himself to the police, Polela said at the time.

I hope this is not the end of the case like Doctor Khumalo's accident ended... and by the way, how did the Dr. Khoza's multi guns case end? Does he still have them? I heard he said whoever wanted to know where he got them from should ask Zuma.

think I heard Bobby coughing a bit in court..sure that will develop into a fully fledged death bed illness within 3 months and he'll get paroled in 6 and be back in the Chiefs media briefings in 9 months.

All manner of corruption kills the country, whether is done by private companies, governments, blacks or whites. However, i hope that this case will reveal more corruption in the private sector because selfish interests of government officials and private company executives are usually intertwined and interlocking(i.e. companies bribing government officials to get tenders, or bypass legislations, price fixing etc.).

  • clement.mokone - 2012-08-16 19:53

But really this is so bad for a team such as chiefs. Corruption and forgery and murder by its manager. I mean these tell what type of deals the team concludes. BAD! So what about the brand now?

  • KobieSchantellJooste - 2012-08-17 07:55

I hope the Hawks investigate their involvement in the Bob van Reenen Stadium saga also ... Kaizer Chiefs / Lefika as well as the Mogale City Council employee's involvement.
