Motive in law firm killing not known

2012-03-28 15:14

Johannesburg - Four people died after a shooting in Zwartkops in Centurion on Wednesday afternoon, Gauteng police said.

"There was a meeting between six people, including attorneys and clients this morning [Wednesday] when a dispute erupted," Warrant Officer Annabel Middelton said.

"The dispute led to a shooting. A man took out his gun and shot three people before he killed himself. The other two people escaped unharmed."

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said when paramedics arrived, the three men were already dead and a fourth man was critical.

"He had a single gunshot wound to the head and paramedics immediately initiated care.

"He was transported to the hospital where he died shortly after arrival," said Wicks.

Middelton said the motive for the dispute and killing was not known.

News24, can you please give us the full report when u have the whole story now? The first article was dodgy so is this one.

      J-Man - 2012-03-28 15:34

Exactly. And its the same thing, just written differently.

      Deon - 2012-03-28 15:36

Most of those in the meeting died, the other 2 in shock. It sounds like the 4 clients from the 2 groups have died, the lawyers survived?

      Squeegee - 2012-03-28 15:38

Once again violence is seen as a solution. We somehow need to change the culture in SA. Road-rage, mob justice, family murders and killing anyone who causes you grief is NOT acceptable.

      npretorius2 - 2012-03-28 15:38

EWN tells a totally different story, They said the meeting went well, then one of the lawyers pulled out a gun and went bonkers...

      amananga - 2012-03-28 15:43

I still don't know whether I shold get a gun or not when I see terrible things like this.

      alexander.lombard - 2012-03-28 16:11

Msika you idiot. Police are still probably not even alowing people at the crime scene nor giving statements. Before internet you would have read the whole artical the next day after going past editors and an array of checks. Thank you news 24 for publishing articles although not complete before you publish it in newspapers wich you own for money. NOW GO BUY YOUR NEWS YOU IDIOTS

      J-Man - 2012-03-28 16:23

@ Alexander - So they should publish two articles that are the same, and just change the heading and a few words? B*tch Plase.

      Msika - 2012-03-28 16:51

@Alex - it's nt my fault tht u re numb and dumb, cld be something u inherited frm ur parents. Did u read the 1st article published by news24 regarding this story (of course not u ignorant TROLL). Why does news24 hve to publish a story 4 timez b4 they cld tel the whole truth on the story? Checked the same headline on iol and they have published one article containing information frm both news24 articles.

      Thozi - 2012-03-28 16:57

      @alexander.lombard I wonder if alexander.lombard has a fireman... I hope not though.

innocent lifes are lost everyday :( so sad

      Taetjo - 2012-03-28 16:26

Lawyers and innocence are not compatible.

  • Atholl - 2012-03-28 15:27

    Law is a dirty game!

  • Koos - 2012-03-28 15:29

I have had my fair share of attorneys and tangled with a few more. I have yet to meet an attorney that tells the truth and doesn’t milk you and each and every situation. Only one thing I hate more than an attorney and that is a politician. More often than not they aggravate a situation to make a little more profit. Justice does have a price. Would love to know what actually happened here.

      rudi.strydom2 - 2012-03-28 16:22

A attorneys slogan " you are innocent untill proven bankrupt"

      Deon - 2012-03-28 16:28

Not all lawyers are bad, some tell you to rather settle before everything (money / property) is gone.

      rudi.strydom2 - 2012-03-28 17:34

@ Deon. How many attorneys is involved in other business practices..development, property, seconhand cars, lending money ext ext. Where does these oppertunities come from?

  • Mashudu - 2012-03-28 15:30

Since two people escaped unharmed we will know the motive very soon. my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed. May they rest in peace.

  • renesh.rambalie - 2012-03-28 15:36

Fisrtly if there was a disagreement between the man and others in the room...please explain to me why kill three people and urself....surely the is only 2 options......1)kill yourself only....2)kill the 3 people that has the problem with you...why did he kill himself and the 3 people...some people just lose the plot!!!!

      Nicky - 2012-03-28 15:47

Well, if you are a lawer and you kill 3 people. What do you think will happen to you idiot???

      Lee - 2012-03-28 15:49

@renesh he was obviously very angry at some in the room and eventually had enough which is why he shot them and he then shot himself knowing that he would go to prison or have to face people and live with what he did which he didn't want so he rather ended his life. It seems like stress and pressure has a lot to do with this time it pushed him over the edge. Very sad because in that split second you do something that you would regret but it's too late.

      Jason - 2012-03-28 16:47

When you attend meetings like that armed with a gun its generally going to go one way.

  • Steve - 2012-03-28 15:40

Hi Guys. Four people are dead. If this happened in the States or Europe this would be headline/breaking news. What is going on in this country??

      Niki - 2012-03-28 16:07

      It is!

      Irene - 2012-03-28 16:25

and this is how you end a meeting.... Sho

  • bluzulu - 2012-03-28 15:43

Taking a loaded weapon to an Obviously stressful situation is never a good idea,,Yikes

  • natasha.wentink - 2012-03-28 15:44

If this individual went in with a gun, it could have been pre-meditated - why else take a loaded weapon into the meeting? I suppose I could speculate that the individual who shot and killed the others before turning the gun on himself did not get the outcome he wanted. Maybe this person woke up this morning thinking, if things don't go his way he'll end it for everyone. The only people who do know what happened in that room are the survivors... still, a very sad story...

  • bluzulu - 2012-03-28 15:55

Lawyers got it first.......All things equal,

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-03-28 15:56

Business meeting and gun sounds very weird. Something is terribly wrong in ths story. I hope the survivors will have guts to tell the truth.

  • Andrew - 2012-03-28 15:58

Please disclose the law firm so that people can avoid it like the plague!!!

  • Niki - 2012-03-28 16:03

According to Beeld the firm was Durant and Richards in Zwartkops.

  • Wayne - 2012-03-28 16:18

My sincere condolences but, everyone, at some point, has thought about shooting a lawyer. Just saying!

      Msika - 2012-03-28 17:05

So u know tht a lawyer ws shot in this incident? Why not share all the details about this story with the rest of us since we're guessing at the moment?

  • Jabu - 2012-03-28 16:33

    It has to be money

  • phathuchicos - 2012-03-28 16:37

Auch my condolences to the families of the victims...sometimes law firms dont think twice before they start playing with people's trust in them. I witnessed a true bribery scheme being taken by a law firm in Pretoria after the massive metrorail accident where victims were being ripped robbed off their payouts by the firm...

  • Hendrik - 2012-03-28 16:43

Hey, life in R.S.A. is getting more hectic by the day, what next? Reminds a bit of the TV ad about Black Bottle whiskey. This is rough.

  • Thoka - 2012-03-28 16:47

News24 reporter. you should have taken early sleep you wasted electricity.

  • Margie - 2012-03-28 16:50

Just came past the crime scene. The lawyers are fine. The one client shot the 3 other clients dead in a dispute over money and then shot himself. Road just been reopened to public. How sad !!

      Louise - 2012-03-28 18:46

@Elbie - MONEY is NOT the root of all evil - get your facts straight : the LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all EVIL.

  • Luviwe - 2012-03-28 17:08

It is always better to coment when the story is complete. Now it is just specultion only when it comes to the motive. Condolences to the families of the deceased.
