POLICE have issued an urgent warning to motorists parked at intersections after a woman and her four-year-old son allegedly faced a gunman at a robot yesterday.

The mother and her toddler were parked at the Boshoff and Burger streets intersection late yesterday afternoon waiting for the traffic lights to change to green, when a man approached her window and pointed a gun at her.

The man allegedly demanded the woman to open her door.

“My wife drove through the red robots and when she looked back she saw the man approaching the next car [behind her’s],” said the victim’s husband.

Police spokesperson Constable Mthokozisi Ngobese said although the matter had not been reported to the police by the time The Witness contacted him, all police units will be on high alert.

“Now that we know about such an incident, we will be on the lookout. We will also look through CCTV footage to identify the suspects,” said Ngobese.

He warned motorists to report such cases to the police. “The worst could have happened and we want to warn motorists of opportunistic criminals in the city centre. Everyone should be on alert especially at intersections,” he said.

He added that police visibility will be intensified.
